On November 1, 2023, the Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Pekan production factory, which was founded in 2004, announced that it had reached a production milestone of 100,000 units. This milestone is the result of almost 20 years of operation and over RM500 million in investments made in the Pekan facility thus far.

"This remarkable achievement underlines Mercedes-Benz Malaysia's commitment and dedication to manufacturing excellence and innovation in the luxury automotive industry," according to Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.

According to Amanda Zhang, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Cars Malaysia and Head of Region for Mercedes-Benz Cars SEA II, Mercedes-Benz is the only luxury car company in Malaysia to have mastered the local production process. The Mercedes-Benz Production Plant in Pekan has been instrumental in forming Malaysia's automobile industry since its founding in 2004. The plant has undergone a tremendous transformation, and this year's milestone performance underscores our dedication to fortifying our position in the premium car market.




The Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4MATIC, the brand's fully electric vehicle, was assembled at the plant, which is another noteworthy accomplishment in recent times. The locally manufactured (CKD) EQS 500 4MATIC eventually took the place of the EQS 450+ variation, which was initially released under the CBU model name. In February 2023, the CKD EQS was introduced to the Malaysian market.

According to Andreas Lettner, Vice President of Production at Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, "We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint by minimizing water and energy consumption while efficiently managing waste, in line with our sustainability vision." We've made several improvements to our factory in cooperation with HICOM Automotive, our contract manufacturing partner.





These improvements include the purchase of new equipment, increased capacity, and the application of several environmental initiatives. These strategies include utilizing rainwater, cutting down on raw material usage through creative packaging, conserving electricity, and incorporating solar energy into the mix.


Mercedes-Benz and HICOM Automotive, its contract manufacturing partner, are collaborating to achieve a Green Production Target for the factory. This goal is to raise the percentage of renewable energy used in production while implementing best practices for reducing energy, water, and waste. By the end of the decade, it hopes to boost the percentage of renewable energy from the current 30% to 85%.
