Proton has announced a new milestone for its popular X50 SUV, partnering with Touch ‘n Go Sdn. Bhd. to offer factory-installed RFID technology. This makes the X50 the first Proton model to include an integrated Touch ‘n Go RFID tag as standard on all variants, allowing drivers to enjoy instant access to RFID-enabled highways without the need for separate installation.
The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at Proton’s Centre of Excellence in Shah Alam by Touch ‘n Go CEO Praba Sangarajoo and Proton Edar Deputy CEO Zhang Qiang.

Praba said the move aligns with Touch ‘n Go’s goal of enabling smarter mobility and providing tangible benefits to motorists. Zhang highlighted the success of the X50, noting that over 140,000 units have been produced at Proton’s Tanjong Malim plant to date.
Launched on 24 July, the latest X50 features a refreshed design inside and out, enhanced connectivity, and a 1.5-litre i-GT turbocharged engine. It quickly became a best-seller in the B-segment SUV category, with 2,000 units delivered in the first three weeks.

Proton hinted that this RFID integration could be extended to other models in the future, marking a step towards a fully RFID-ready vehicle range.
