Perodua QV-E: Malaysia’s First Homegrown EV Set for Launch This Year

25-Nov-2025

Perodua has officially set the stage for a major milestone in Malaysia’s automotive industry, releasing a teaser video that gives the first glimpse of its upcoming electric vehicle, the QV-E. The short clip flashes the EV’s front end and number plate, confirming the model name as Perodua prepares for its debut.

Billed as Malaysia’s first fully homegrown EV, the QV-E has been designed and developed entirely in-house. Perodua holds complete intellectual property rights over the vehicle’s design and its platform—marking a significant step toward strengthening local EV capabilities.

Under the hood, the QV-E will feature CATL-supplied LFP batteries, though Perodua clarified that the battery giant’s involvement stops there, with no skateboard platform used. The battery measures 52.5 kWh, delivering an estimated real-world range of 400 to 410 km. This places the QV-E above the eMas 5 in range and on par with the eMas 7.

Performance-wise, Perodua is targeting a 0–100 km/h time between six and seven seconds and a top speed of around 160 km/h, making it one of the more capable EVs in its price segment.

Speaking of price, the QV-E is expected to land at around RM80,000, positioning it above the eMas 5 but still within reach for many Malaysians. What sets the QV-E apart, however, is Perodua’s introduction of two new ownership programmes:
  • A Guaranteed Future Value (GFV) scheme to protect buyers from rapid EV depreciation.
  • A battery leasing plan, making Perodua the first brand in Malaysia to offer such an option.

Beyond the car itself, the QV-E represents a larger national push toward local EV development. Perodua aims to achieve 50% local content by mid-2026, with long-term plans to localise battery and motor production as volumes grow.

The model will be launched by the Prime Minister at the end of this month, signalling its importance as a national agenda. The teaser video closes with the line, “From the hands of Malaysians comes the power to move Malaysia,” underscoring the brand’s focus on local innovation and capability.

As anticipation builds, the QV-E is shaping up to be a landmark moment for Malaysia’s EV journey—homegrown, ambitious, and designed with the future in mind.
