The Transport Ministry (MoT) recently announced the appointment of three new companies to provide vehicle inspection services (PPKM) alongside Puspakom. Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that this decision follows a cabinet meeting on March 17, 2023, where it was agreed that vehicle inspections under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) would be opened to other eligible companies.

The newly appointed companies are Wawasan Bintang, operating in Port Klang, Gua Musang, and Mersing; Pakatan Petroleum, covering Rawang and Temerloh; and Beriman Gold, responsible for Kuching and Serian. The ministry emphasized that these companies were chosen through a strict evaluation process to ensure compliance with industry standards.



However, PAS member Nurul Islam Mohammed Yusoff has questioned the selection process. While he supports breaking Puspakom’s monopoly, he raised concerns about the lack of experience among the appointed companies. According to SSM records, Pakatan Petroleum primarily deals with petroleum and gas, while Beriman Gold is involved in construction, telecommunications, and IT, none of which are related to vehicle inspections. Meanwhile, Wawasan Bintang, the only company listing vehicle inspection services as its business, is just eight months old and has no prior track record. Nurul Islam also questioned how a newly established company without financial reports could prove its financial strength.



In response, Anthony Loke clarified that the companies were selected based on strict criteria, including being locally owned, financially strong, and having a minimum paid-up capital of RM10 million. Additionally, the firms were required to demonstrate high potential, readiness, and commitment to meeting all requirements. The selected companies now have 24 months to set up their facilities, purchase inspection equipment, and obtain necessary approvals before they can receive a full operating license. The ministry assured that it will closely monitor their progress to ensure all conditions are met before operations officially begin.
