The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro, also known as the Tiggo Cross in markets like South Africa and Indonesia, has been spotted testing in Malaysia. These countries still sell the older facelift model alongside the new one. At least three units were seen on a Malaysian highway, all fitted with trade plates and some level of camouflage. Despite the disguise, key design features such as vertical DRLs, full-width tail lamps, slim headlights, and a large angular grille were still visible.

Interestingly, each test car had different wheels, and one of them appeared to have a smaller exhaust box. This raises the possibility that Malaysia could get two engine options: a 1.5L naturally aspirated (NA) engine producing 116 PS and 138 Nm with a CVT, similar to the Indonesian version, and a 1.5L turbo engine with 147 PS and 210 Nm paired with a 6-speed DCT, like the one offered in South Africa. If this turns out to be true, Chery Malaysia may introduce a budget-friendly 1.5 NA variant to compete with the Perodua Ativa, while the 1.5 turbo variant could be a feature-packed alternative to the Honda WR-V.



Expected to launch in Malaysia in the first half of 2025, the Tiggo 4 Pro/Tiggo Cross will sit below the Omoda 5 in both size and price, potentially making it the brand’s new entry-level model. Could it start at a five-digit price tag? For reference, this SUV is priced at Rp 239.5-269.5 juta (RM65k-73k) in Indonesia and ZAR 400k-450k (RM96k-108k) in South Africa, while locally, the Ativa costs RM63k-73k and the WR-V is priced at RM90k-108k.
