Local carmaker Proton has exceeded its export goal for Trinidad and Tobago in 2024, delivering 261 cars to the island - 101% of their target. Overall, Proton has exported 366 cars to Trinidad and Tobago since the start of CY2023.

Buoyed by this success, Proton’s local distributor, ANSA Motors, is now concentrating on boosting sales of the X Series models. On March 13, 2024, Proton launched the Proton X50 B-segment SUV and the Proton X90 7-seater SUV in Trinidad and Tobago.

In a recent press release, Proton highlighted its growing popularity in Trinidad and Tobago. Despite its relatively small population of 1.5 million, the country’s car market is expanding to include more advanced features like hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs). As people in the region become wealthier, they are also showing more interest in luxury cars.



The ANSA McAL Group, one of the largest companies in Trinidad and Tobago with over 25 subsidiaries across the Caribbean, has played a significant role in the automotive industry. Since its founding in 1919, its subsidiary ANSA Motors has been instrumental in introducing well-known global car brands to the country. ANSA Motors was the first Ford dealer in the Caribbean and has been influential in shaping the local car industry. The company’s long history includes personal interactions with Henry Ford and the establishment of a car assembly plant in Trinidad & Tobago, cementing its place in local history.

Since launching, Proton has sent 6,501 X Series vehicles to 18 countries, including Trinidad and Tobago, Brunei, Egypt, Nepal, and Ghana. This success is helping them plan to enter more markets in the future.
