In May, the all-electric i5 M60 and i5 eDrive40 models of BMW's latest G60 BMW 5 Series were unveiled to the public. At the upcoming IAA Mobility 2023 on September 1, BMW will exhibit the PHEV versions of its brand-new 5 Series, the BMW 530e and 550e, following the introduction of the electric models.

The brand's four- and six-cylinder PHEV powertrains for the 530e and 550e, respectively, will drive the two forthcoming PHEV executive cars. Maximum combined output of the PHEV powertrain in the BMW 530e is 299 horsepower. The integrated drive unit of the BMW 550e, in contrast, generates 197 horsepower and helps to reach a maximum combined output of 489 horsepower.





Additionally, the new PHEV G60 BMW 5 series will include BMW's own pre-gearing stage technology. With the use of this technology, the executive cars' 280 Nm nominal torque can be raised to 350 Nm at the transmission input.

The little electric motor can thus increase torque to a level that was previously only attainable with larger electric motors. Because of this, the BMW 530e and 550e can accelerate more quickly and produce a quick burst of speed.






The new PHEV BMW 5 Series is touted as having superior performance as well as the ability to travel further in pure electric vehicle (EV) mode. The WLTP range of the BMW 530e is now up to 101 km while that of the BMW 550e is now up to 90 km.

The 19.4 kWh lithium-ion battery is located in a "space-saving manner," according to the German luxury automaker, in the 530e and 550e. The car's center of gravity is lowered as a result, and its 520-liter boot has more room. Similar to the pure combustion engine 5 Series vehicles, this boot compartment has a boot capacity of about this size.





The maximum charging capacity of the future BMW 530e and 550e has increased from 2.4 kW to 7.4 kW in comparison to the outgoing generation. It takes 3.0 hours to charge a device from empty to full, compared to 9.8 hours when using a standard domestic power outlet.
