Although the Mini Rad-V constantly calculates and updates the background conditions, the device can be adjusted at for higher than usual radiation environments. The Cesium Iodide Scintillation detector is encased and protected in a durable polymer enclosure that is designed to be impervious to even the harshest environmental conditions.

On the interior, the display and alarm component is simple to understand and easy to operate. An audible and visual alarm notifies the user that the monitor has determined that radioactive materials are present near the vehicle. The alarm must be physically acknowledged to guard against elevated exposure rates being inadvertently overlooked. As with other D-Tect radiation detection and monitoring devices, there is effectively no training necessary for the mini Rad-V to be used to its fullest capacity.
