Identification of Bed Bugs
Identify bed bugs correctly and take immediate action to protect your home, health, and peace of mind.
Cimex lectularius (1–4 mm ) flat oval body
Swells after feeding and becomes darker. Mostly found in bedrooms near sleeping areas.
Cimex hemipterus
Common in Malaysia’s warm climate. Slightly smaller but more aggressive and resistant. Spreads rapidly in hostels and apartments.
Habits & Risks
Bed bugs feed exclusively on blood, mostly at night when humans are asleep. Infestations often spread through travel—hotels, Airbnb, cinemas, and used furniture. While they do not transmit diseases, they can cause:
- Severe allergic skin reactions
- Anxiety & loss of sleep
- Skin infections from scratching
A clean home does NOT mean bed bugs cannot appear—they can hitchhike anywhere.
Where Bed Bugs Hide
- Mattress seams & bed frames
- Headboards & wall cracks
- Sofas & upholstered furniture
- Luggage & travel bags
- Curtains & power outlets
Signs of Bed Bug Infestation
- Itchy bite marks in clusters or straight lines
- Bloodstains on sheets and pillowcases
- Dark fecal spots on mattresses and furniture
- Shed skins or eggs in seams & cracks
- A sweet musty odor in severe cases
