Eighteen families from Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, whose homes were severely damaged in the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion on April 1, have officially received the keys to their reconstructed houses. The rebuilding effort was led by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) through Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB), with RM4.85 million allocated for repair and reconstruction works.
During the handover ceremony, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the 2025 tragedy required immediate government intervention, prompting KPKT to activate the National Housing Disaster Trust Fund to channel support for families who lost their homes. SPNB began reconstruction on May 1, 2025, and has now completed all works, providing new homes and renewed stability for affected residents.
Nga also highlighted ongoing national housing efforts, noting SPNB’s strong performance in the Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) programme. With a boosted allocation of RM2.13 billion, SPNB is now targeting the construction of 26,272 RMR units, contributing to improved housing access for low-income families. As of October 2025, 74,957 units have been completed across Malaysia.
The event also marked the launch of the MyRMR app, designed to streamline applications and monitoring for the RMR programme—an initiative that benefits growing communities, including areas with rising demand for industrial land in Selangor and expanding residential zones supporting commercial property growth in the Subang region.
