FIABCI Supports Malaysia¡¯s Urban Renewal Bill, Calls for Clear Guidelines

30-Nov-2025

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 27) – FIABCI-Malaysia has expressed full support for the federal government’s Urban Renewal Bill 2025, urging authorities to provide clear regulations, implementation guidelines, and approved timelines to ensure the initiative’s success.

In a statement on Thursday, FIABCI-Malaysia president Dr Yu Kee Su highlighted the organisation’s readiness to collaborate with government agencies and industry stakeholders to achieve the Bill’s objectives.

“The Urban Renewal Act establishes a legal framework to redevelop run-down buildings, outdated infrastructure, and neglected neighbourhoods, with the goal of revitalising urban areas,” said Dr Yu. “It is expected to drive sustainable growth, enhance quality of life, and transform city centres into models of shared prosperity and resilience.”

Focus on Inclusive Urban Regeneration
Dr Yu emphasised that urban renewal should uplift communities rather than displace them, stressing the importance of good governance to protect residents’ rights and ensure fair relocation processes.

He noted that the Act aligns with FIABCI-Malaysia’s advocacy for sustainable urban development and inclusive growth, highlighting that urban regeneration can strengthen city competitiveness, foster commercial opportunities, and support local community needs.

The organisation also encouraged public-private partnerships to enable financially viable and impactful projects. To build public trust, Dr Yu recommended transparency measures such as measurable performance indicators and consistent progress reporting.

With the revised Bill expected to be tabled in Parliament next month, FIABCI-Malaysia advised stakeholders in the real estate, construction, and related sectors to prepare for engagement.

“FIABCI-Malaysia is committed to contributing expertise to ensure that the Urban Renewal Act becomes a transformative milestone for Malaysia’s urban resilience,” Dr Yu concluded.
