MAHB Open to MACC Investigation on RM456 Million Aerotrain Upgrade, Says MD

17-Nov-2025

SEPANG (Nov 14): Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has stated that it is fully prepared to cooperate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should the agency initiate an investigation into the RM456 million KLIA aerotrain upgrade. However, no request or inquiry has been made so far, according to MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani.

Speaking during a briefing on MAHB’s comprehensive action plan to improve aerotrain reliability, Mohd Izani confirmed that the company has yet to receive any approach from MACC.

“I haven't received any requests from them. But as a government-linked agency, we are always open to cooperating with MACC,” he said.

Earlier this week, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook reiterated that MACC is free to pursue an investigation into the aerotrain project if supported by sufficient evidence and legal basis.

No Pressure to Rush Completion, Says MAHB

Responding to questions on whether MAHB was pressured to expedite the aerotrain’s reopening, Mohd Izani said contractors were capable of delivering the project within the timeline and stressed that due process was followed before services resumed on July 1.

“Eventually, we delivered. Today’s briefing is to ensure that every issue is addressed so we can enter the new year with full reliability,” he said.

Timeline of the Aerotrain Project

  • Dec 2021: Pestec International Bhd and Alstom were initially awarded the aerotrain upgrade contract.

  • Aug 2023: MAHB terminated Pestec’s contract due to “non-performance” and risks of further delays.

  • Jan 2024: Alstom and the IJM Corp–Pestec joint venture were appointed to complete the project, with each party responsible for its own scope of work under a tripartite structure.

The aerotrain upgrade forms part of the broader infrastructure plan supporting Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s role as a regional transport hub—an ecosystem that also influences demand patterns for commercial property in KL, logistics-friendly industrial land in Selangor, and transit-oriented hubs near office space in Bukit Jalil. Industrial clusters linked to airport connectivity, especially factory space in Puchong and industrial property in the Subang area, continue to benefit from long-term transportation upgrades.
