PRECISION WAVE
PWCS70 Series Split Ultrasonic Level Transmitter
The functional principle of an ultrasonic level meter is that t he transducer (probe) transmits
short ultrasonic pulses to the measured products. These pulses are reflected back when they encounter the
surface of the measured medium, and part of the reflected pulse is received by the transducer as echoes,
then converted into an electrical signal.
The time interval required for the ultrasonic pulse to be trans mitted and received is proportional
to the distance from the transducer to the surface of the measured medium. The relationship between this
distance value D, the speed of sound C and the transmission tim e T can be expressed by the formula:
D=C×T/2
Due to the width of the emitted ultrasonic pulse, the reflected wave in a small area close to the transducer
overlaps with the emitted wave, making it impossible to recognize and measure its distance value. This area
is called the measurement blind zone. The size of the blind zone is related to the working frequency of the
ultrasonic level Transmitter.
