Kimpalan MIG konvensional memerlukan operator menetapkan sendiri parameter seperti voltan dan kelajuan suapan dawai. Kaedah ini memberi kawalan penuh kepada jurukimpal berpengalaman tetapi boleh menjadi sukar bagi pemula kerana tetapan yang tidak tepat boleh menyebabkan percikan berlebihan atau arka yang tidak stabil.
MIG sinergi pula menggunakan tetapan pra-program di mana mesin melaraskan voltan dan arus secara automatik mengikut jenis dawai, gas dan bahan. Ini menghasilkan arka yang lebih stabil, mengurangkan masa penyediaan, dan meningkatkan konsistensi kimpalan. Walaupun lebih mudah digunakan, mesin MIG sinergi biasanya lebih mahal dan menawarkan kurang pelarasan manual berbanding MIG konvensional.
