Countdown to Delivery! 3 "Life-Saving" To-Dos for the Third Trimester (Week 28 onwards)
Hang in there, Mummies! If you are reading this, you have entered the Third Trimester. You are just one step away from meeting your little one!
By now, your bump feels like a giant watermelon, sleeping is uncomfortable, and you get out of breath easily. Besides the physical discomfort, your main mission now is "Getting Baby Out Safely".
Is your nursery ready?
If you haven't bought the essentials yet, hurry up while you can still walk comfortably! Don't wait until the last minute.

1. Daily "Fetal Kick Counts" - This is Mandatory!
Starting from Week 28, nurses will require you to chart baby movements in your Pink Book. This is not just homework; it is your baby's "safety signal".
The Golden Rule: "10 Kicks from 9 AM to 9 PM".
If you reach 10 kicks early, you are done for the day. BUT, if you notice significantly reduced movement or the baby is not moving, go straight to the Hospital Emergency Room (PAC). Do not wait!
2. Pack Your "Hospital Bag" (Bag Beranak)
Don't wait until your water breaks! It is recommended to have your bag ready by Week 32 - 34 and keep it in the car.
The Checklist (Gov Hospital Friendly):
- Documents: Pink Book (Crucial!), IC, Marriage Cert.
- For Mom: Sarong (Kain Batik) 2-3 pcs, Maternity Pads (loops/adhesive), Going-home outfit, Nursing bra.
- For Baby: Diapers (Newborn), Clothes, Mittens & Booties, Swaddle.
- Energy: Bread, Biscuits, Milo (Labor takes a lot of energy!).
3. Recognize "Labor Signs"
Many first-time moms confuse "Braxton Hicks" with real contractions. Watch out for these 3 signals:
- Show (Tanda): Discharge mixed with blood or the release of the Mucus Plug.
- Water Break: A gush or trickle of warm fluid that you can't control. Once your water breaks, lie down and go to the hospital immediately to prevent cord prolapse.
- Regular Contractions: The tummy gets hard and painful regularly (e.g., every 10 minutes), getting stronger and closer together.
