1. Laughing Gas (Entonox) - "Feeling Tipsy"
Available at: Gov & Private Hospitals
This is the most basic option. You hold a mask and inhale when a contraction hits. It doesn't stop the pain but makes you feel "lightheaded" or drunk, helping you dissociate from the pain.
Pros: You control it; safe for baby.
Cons: Limited pain relief; can cause dry mouth or nausea.
2. Pethidine Injection - "Sleep it Off"
Available at: Gov & Private Hospitals
A strong painkiller injected into your thigh. It relaxes your muscles and makes you drowsy, allowing you to sleep and save energy during early labor.
Note: Usually given in early labor (2-4cm). Doctors avoid giving it close to delivery (8-10cm) as it may make the baby drowsy upon birth.
3. Epidural - "The Queen of Pain Relief"
Available at: Private (Standard), Gov (Subject to availability)
Widely considered the most effective method. Anesthetic is injected into the spine to numb the lower body. You remain awake, but the intense contraction pain disappears. It feels like heaven!
Reality Check: In Government hospitals, Epidurals depend on the availability of an Anesthetist. It is not always guaranteed. If you have low pain tolerance, check the hospital policy early.
Whatever you choose, Safety First!
