Goodbye Morning Sickness! The "Golden Period" (Week 13-28) is Here, But Don't Miss These 3 Crucial To-Dos!
Congratulations, Mummies! If you have passed Week 13, welcome to the legendary "Honeymoon Phase" of pregnancy!
By now, the nausea has likely faded, your energy is back, and your appetite has returned. But this isn't the time to just relax! This is the period of rapid baby growth, and there are key check-ups with "strict deadlines" that you cannot miss.
Still struggling with the first check-up?
If you are still in the early trimester and worried about the long wait at the government clinic, read this first:

1. Drinking the "Dreaded Sugar Water" (MGTT)
Timing: Week 24 - 28 (Earlier if you have risk factors)
It’s every mom's nightmare, but it’s crucial for the baby. If you had a "Yellow Sticker" on your Pink Book or gained weight too fast, the doctor will order a Modified Glucose Tolerance Test (MGTT).
Why do it? Gestational Diabetes (GDM) can lead to big babies (macrosomia), excessive amniotic fluid, or birth complications. So, please cooperate! (Tip: Squeeze a wedge of lemon into the drink if allowed, it helps with the nausea! )
2. The Detailed Scan - Do Not Skip This!
Timing: Week 20 - 24 (The Golden Window)
This is arguably the most important scan of your entire pregnancy.
Important: Government clinics (KK) usually only provide basic 2D scans. To clearly check fingers, toes, heart structures, and cleft lip risks, we highly recommend visiting a private clinic for a Detailed Scan.
At this stage, the baby is the perfect size and amniotic fluid is sufficient for the doctor to check every organ from head to toe. It's also the best time for a Gender Reveal!
3. Booking Your Confinement Centre
Timing: Week 16 - 20
"Booking this early? I'm only 4 or 5 months pregnant!"
YES!
Popular Confinement Centres in Malaysia are often fully booked 6 months in advance. If you want a specific room type or a package with 1-on-1 baby care, now is the time to pay the deposit.
Don't wait until your third trimester to survey centres. You will be too tired, and the best slots will be gone.
Haven't booked a Confinement Centre yet?
Don't risk being left with only "expensive" or "far away" options.
Start surveying now while you have the energy!
