Navigating the Language Barrier: Notarizing Foreign Documents

Petaling Jaya’s diverse expatriate and international student population often requires the notarization of documents in languages other than English or Malay. If a Notary is required to verify that a client understands the content of a document (common in loan agreements or marriage declarations), and the document is in a foreign language, an official translation is required. Most Notaries will advise clients to seek a translation from a certified court interpreter or an embassy-approved translator.
