Appearance

Build: Athletic, lean, and medium-sized — built for speed and stamina.

Coat: Two main types:

Rough coat – medium to long, slightly wavy

Smooth coat – short and dense

Colors: Black and white (classic), but can also be red and white, blue merle, tricolor, sable, or even lilac.

Eyes: Often brown, amber, or blue; heterochromia (two different eye colors) is fairly common.

Tail: Moderately long, with a white tip (“flag”), carried low when relaxed.
Temperament and Personality
Border Collies are known for their exceptional intelligence and relentless drive to work.

Highly trainable — they pick up new commands in minutes.

Focused and intense — especially when “working” (even if that means chasing a ball).

Loyal and affectionate with family, but can be reserved with strangers.

Extremely energetic — they need both mental and physical stimulation daily.

Natural problem-solvers — great for obedience, agility, flyball, and search & rescue.
þ A bored Border Collie can easily become destructive — they thrive on having a “job.”
þ Exercise and Care

Exercise needs: Very high — at least 2 hours daily.

Running, hiking, agility training, herding, frisbee, obedience drills, etc.
