The Myobrace® System is a preventive pre-orthodontic treatment designed to address the underlying causes of crooked teeth, often eliminating the need for braces or tooth extractions. By focusing on unlocking natural growth and development, this system provides a holistic approach to orthodontics.
Ideal for Children
Treatment is most effective for children aged 3 to 15, utilizing a series of removable intra-oral appliances that should be worn for 1-2 hours each day, in addition to overnight while sleeping.
Delaying treatment until all permanent teeth have erupted can lead to irreversible damage, negatively affecting both dental and overall health. Early intervention is critical, as poor myofunctional habits can be identified before all permanent teeth are present, allowing for treatment to begin as early as three years old.
How Myobrace® Works
Myobrace® addresses incorrect myofunctional habits by guiding children to breathe through their noses, position their tongues correctly against the roof of their mouths, and swallow properly, while also encouraging jaw expansion for optimal growth. This process helps create sufficient space for the teeth, enabling them to emerge straight and often without the need for braces.
The Myobrace® System includes a series of intra-oral appliances that are worn for one hour daily, plus overnight. These appliances aid in correcting poor oral habits and expanding the arch-form while applying gentle forces to align the teeth and jaws. Different appliances are used based on the child's age and specific orthodontic issues. Additionally, the patient education program, known as Myobrace® Activities, helps further correct myofunctional habits through a series of exercises focusing on breathing, tongue positioning, swallowing, lip, and cheek control, which should be performed twice daily alongside wearing the Myobrace® appliance.
Treatment Approach
Myobrace® treatment begins with habit correction and progresses through a combination of three or more appliances aimed at resolving the root causes of orthodontic problems and guiding the teeth into proper alignment as they grow. Early recognition of poor myofunctional habits allows for timely intervention, although older children may require more effort due to established incorrect habits and growth patterns. With good compliance, remarkable results are achievable.
It is important to note that regular illnesses may interfere with the consistent use of the Myobrace® appliance, potentially delaying treatment and hindering successful outcomes.
