Recent traffic accidents resulting in death and injury have highlighted the need for improved road safety measures. Malaysia’s high road fatality rate, with over 5,364 fatal accidents and half a million accidents reported this year, underscores the urgency of addressing this issue.
Contributors to accidents include the increasing number of vehicles, speeding on highways, and poorly designed road upgrades. Suggestions include:

• Implementing systems at toll plazas to fine speeding drivers immediately using data from speed cameras.
• Enhancing federal and state road upgrades, ensuring bridges and adjoining roads are raised uniformly to prevent accidents caused by uneven gradients.
• Improving road maintenance during the monsoon season, including fixing potholes, repairing streetlights, clearing drains, and pruning obstructive trees.

Authorities are also encouraged to adopt ample signage for roadworks and revive the Kejara demerit points system to discourage repeat offenders, aiming for safer roads and reduced traffic violations.
