Proton has given Malaysians their first look at the eMas 7 PHEV, showcased at the Proton Tech Showcase in Shah Alam. While not yet launched, the display car suggests the model is close to production, featuring Proton’s full badges, right-hand-drive layout, and near-final exterior panels. The eMas 7 PHEV is based on the Geely Starray EM-i / Galaxy Starship 7, adapted for the Malaysian market. Under the hood is a 1.5L Atkinson-cycle BHE15PFI engine paired with the EM-i Super Hybrid system, producing 99 PS / 125 Nm from the engine and 218 PS / 262 Nm from the electric motor. Proton claims a 0–100 km/h time of 8 seconds. Power is delivered through a 12-in-1 DHT hybrid transmission, supported by an 18.4 kWh LFP battery. The system offers up to 83 km EV-only range (WLTP) and a combined WLTP range of 943 km, while Proton’s own testing quotes 1,065 km total range. On the outside, the PHEV gets a more solid-looking front design with split LED headlights, a full-width light bar, and conventional door handles. Inside, the RHD model uses the same dashboard design as the electric eMas 7. Official pricing has not been announced, but early surveys hint at a possible RM130k–RM140k range. The PHEV may cost more than the eMas 7 EV as plug-in hybrids are not eligible for EV tax exemptions.
