Chery Corrects JPJ Data Error: October Sales for Omoda E5 at 16 Units.

19-Nov-2024

Chery Malaysia recently highlighted corrections to the October 2024 vehicle registration data released by the Road Transport Department (JPJ). The reported figures contained several errors, including data on Chery models.

For the Tiggo 8 Pro, JPJ stated there were only 16 units registered, while the accurate number is 87, indicating much stronger demand for this premium SUV. For the Omoda E5 (EV), JPJ reported 348 units sold, but the actual total is only 16, reflecting slower sales after the initial launch buzz, a trend seen with other EVs as well. Meanwhile, JPJ listed 87 units sold for the Tiggo 7 Pro, though the correct figure is 348, showing the model's strong market traction.

Chery Malaysia emphasized that accurate data reporting is crucial as it directly impacts public perception and decision-making in the automotive market. They stressed that as they continue to grow in Malaysia, it is important for their performance to be properly reflected.

The corrected numbers show growing interest in Chery’s models, especially the Tiggo 7 Pro, which has become a popular choice in the mid-size SUV market.

Chery Malaysia also plans to bring more options to the country, including new energy vehicles (NEVs) like the OMODA E5, to support Malaysia’s move towards greener and more sustainable transport.

Chery plans to expand its new energy vehicle (NEV) lineup in 2025 by introducing hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models. This move aligns with Deputy MITI Minister YB Liew Chin Tong’s vision for electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrids, and range-extended EVs (REEVs) to become a key part of Malaysia’s automotive market.
