Proton Holdings Bhd reports that the newly updated 2024 Proton X50 sold 2,585 units in its first month of launch.

The B-segment premium SUV demonstrated its popularity by achieving this sales figure in July, despite some initial doubts from various sources, according to the national carmaker.

July's sales for the X50 were the highest this year, propelling the model back to the top of its segment and reaffirming its position as Malaysia's favorite compact SUV.

Given its strong performance in the domestic SUV market since its introduction, this resurgence might not be surprising to many.

Many may not know that since its launch during the pandemic on October 27, 2020, nearly 120,000 Proton X50s have been sold, making it the fastest-selling SUV in Malaysia.

Proton also mentioned that, even with tough competition from new SUVs by Japanese and Chinese brands, the X50 held a 10.3 percent market share in the SUV category from January to June 2024.


According to Proton, the Proton X50 has attracted a wide range of buyers, appealing equally to both men and women, with over 60 percent of customers aged between 26 and 50 years.

This shows that the SUV appeals to both young professionals and families, said Proton Edar CEO Roslan Abdullah.

He added that the X50’s combination of performance, safety, and connectivity continues to meet customers' needs and preferences.
