Now that the Japan Mobility Show 2023 is underway, we can finally see the Toyota FT-Se concept. Of course, Toyota has a lot of other models on display as well, but the Ft-Se is arguably the most striking. Based on my observations, the best way to characterize it is as a battery electric vehicle (BEV) the size of a GR86.

Indeed, the Toyota FT-Se is an electric sports car that will probably replace the brand's classic sports car versions. We can now guarantee that its design is unique and not a carbon replica of the Toyota Sports EV concept, which made its debut back in December 2021. Although Toyota has not yet released any details about the FT-SE, its design merits discussion.





The brand has a completely new appearance on the front end. The Toyota FT-Se has cooling ducts next to its headlights and a sizable lower grille, despite being an all electric vehicle. The positioning light design, or DRL, which extends vertically from the headlights to the front lip, is one striking design feature. Although no specifics have been revealed as of yet, the car's general design also points to a weight distribution akin to a midship runabout.

Toyota's presentation today at least gives us an indication that its BEVs will have a distinct "flavour of driving fun" and "automotive seasoning." According to Toyota, the unique quality of BEVs is their ability to combine a large interior with a low center of gravity.






The Toyota Ft-Se has a shrink-wrapped appearance due to its surfaces. As a concept vehicle, Toyota has also gone ahead and added flush door handles and minuscule side mirrors. With its dramatic ducktail spoiler and horn-shaped taillights, the FT-Se has an incredibly striking appearance around the back end of the vehicle. To match, the back vents are likewise quite striking. Regarding wheel dimensions, the concept FT-Se is equipped with a set of 20-inch wheels.


Toyota President and CEO Koji Sato remarked during the company's presentation today, "I know you will find your future among Toyota's cars. I'm going to discuss three future automotive tales that are mobility-focused today. First story: our life with BEV in the future. They're not just environmentally beneficial. In addition, electric vehicles can provide a variety of experience values and have their own unique brand of mechanical flavor and driving pleasure. We saw BEVs like these.






We are producing BEVs in a manner unique to genuine automakers. To do this, the basic ideas of automobile manufacturing must be reviewed. Additionally, providing value that is exclusive to BEvs and fundamental performance like driving range. Making cars that have a large interior and a low center of gravity, which was not previously achievable, is one example

We must use our strength as an automaker to assemble the major components in the finest feasible package in order to accomplish this, which will require making them considerably lighter and smaller. Design, driving experience, and all other aspects can be changed in order to achieve this.






The scenery appears entirely different in these vehicles. First to manufacture vehicles that communicate this tale is the Lexus brand. Naturally, vehicles under the Toyota and GR brands, such as these two models, will also alter.
