Chery: Omoda 5, Tiggo 8 Pro launched in Malaysia on 6 July 2023

The all-new OMODA 5 is Chery's first global model designed to meet international demands. It emphasizes modernity and sportiness, targeting the young consumer market and competing against models such as the Proton X50, Honda HR-V, and Mazda CX-30 in the B-Segment SUV segment.

In terms of exterior design, the OMODA 5 features a coupe SUV silhouette, dual-tone paint options, and a floating roof, giving it a sporty appearance. The interior design is minimalist yet technologically advanced, likely to attract many young consumers.

Under the hood, the OMODA 5 is equipped with a 1.5L turbocharged engine paired with a simulated 9-speed CVT transmission. It is front-wheel drive (FWD) and delivers an output of 156hp and 230Nm of torque. The vehicle offers ECO and Sport driving modes. The first 3,000 customers can enjoy a free 10-year or 1 million kilometers engine warranty, while other customers have the option to purchase it for an additional RM2,000.

The Tiggo 8 Pro, introduced by the manufacturer, is the latest facelifted version known as the Tiggo 8 Pro Max in China. It features a new front grille with an illuminated logo and upgraded from 18-inch to 19-inch alloy wheels. The rear of the vehicle is equipped with trendy LED taillights that span the width of the car.

The interior has undergone changes as well, with a dual-screen layout and a new steering wheel. The touch panel for the air conditioning controls is positioned below the central air vents, and the position of the gear lever and buttons on the center console has been reconfigured.

In terms of powertrain, the Tiggo 8 Pro is equipped with a 2.0L TGDI turbocharged engine, delivering 250hp and 390Nm of torque. It is paired with a 7-speed DCT dual-clutch transmission and comes with a front-wheel drive (FWD) configuration. The vehicle offers three driving modes: ECO, Normal, and Sport.
