In terms of exterior design, the Alphard has a more luxurious appearance. Its grille is composed of black and chrome panels, accompanied by LED headlights and dotted LED daytime running lights. On the other hand, the Vellfire, being the sportier twin, features a chrome trim grille with LED headlights and a series of black elements. The black elements on the Vellfire are more pronounced in the Z Premier version. It incorporates a series of design elements that Toyota refers to as "Jet Black Coating," as well as black accents, to present a more aggressive demeanor.
Both the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire offer options of naturally aspirated (NA) engines, turbocharged gasoline engines, and gasoline hybrid systems, depending on the selected model and version. Between the two all-new Toyota Alphard and Vellfire, there are also options for 2WD, AWD, and hybrid AWD.
The Z version of the Alphard offers two powertrain options. This includes a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine paired with a Super CVT-i transmission, capable of delivering 182PS horsepower and 235 Nm of torque. Power can be transmitted either through front-wheel drive (FWD) or through an all-wheel drive (AWD) system to all four wheels. The Alphard also offers Toyota's hybrid system, which is available for the Z version and the higher-end Executive Lounge version. This system includes a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Dynamic Force engine that independently outputs 190PS horsepower and 236 Nm of torque, along with a 5 NM electric motor that delivers 182PS horsepower and 270 Nm of torque.
In terms of safety, both the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire are equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense suite. This suite includes features such as pre-collision assist, lane departure alert, and deceleration assist during intersection turns, among other safety functions. Toyota also offers the Advanced Drive system, which can help reduce driver fatigue in congested traffic conditions and enable drivers to pay more attention to their surroundings for safer driving. This feature is standard in the Executive Lounge and Z Premier versions, and optional in the Z version.
The all-new Toyota Alphard and Vellfire will be manufactured at the Toyota Inabe plant in Japan. Toyota expects to sell 8,500 units of these luxury MPVs per month, with the Alphard accounting for 70% of the sales and the Vellfire comprising 30%.
