Coming Soon to Malaysia : The 2023 Mazda 3 IPM with Larger Screen, Wireless Android Auto, ACC with Stop & Go, Starting at RM149k!

09-Sep-2023

In Malaysia, an update to the fourth-generation Mazda 3 is forthcoming, and local retailers have already begun to promote it online. The revisions seem to be in accordance with a product enhancement announced by Mazda back in April of this year. The C-segment vehicle is totally imported (CBU) from Japan.

Dealer listings indicate that the Mazda 3 will continue to be offered in the same variation lineup as before, with the sedan version coming in Mid, High, and High Plus versions. Three variants are available for the hatchback body design, often known as the "Liftback" by the manufacturer: the Mid, High Plus, and Ignite Edition.

The following changes are included with the Mazda 3 IPM (an internal code designating a refresh or minor year-model updates):
  • All USB-A ports are replaced by USB-C ports.
  • Added 10.25-inch infotainment screen (starting with the High version)
  • Added Qi wireless charging pad (starting with High Plus)
  • Addition of wireless Apple CarPlay functionality (starting with High Plus)
  • With High Plus, Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) includes a stop and go feature.
  • Added 12-speaker Bose audio system (only for Ignite Edition)

The standard equipment for both body forms should be maintained at each variant level exactly as it is. This indicates that the Mid variant's kit is the same whether you choose a sedan or hatchback, and it also holds true for other variants that are shared by both body types. When the Mazda 3 IPM officially goes on sale here, we'll receive a complete spec sheet, so keep checking back.

According to what dealers are reporting, the new Mazda 3 will cost between RM5,000 and RM6,000 more than when it was first revealed in July. The on-the-road statistics that we have currently compiled (without insurance) are as follows:
  • 2023 Mazda 3 1.5L Mid Sedan/Hatchback – RM149,320
  • 2023 Mazda 3 2.0L High Sedan – RM156,059
  • 2023 Mazda 3 2.0L High Plus Sedan/Hatchback – RM166,059
  • 2023 Mazda 3 2.0L Ignite Edition Hatchback – RM175,059

The Mazda 3's SkyActiv-G engine lineup is expected to remain the same, with the first being a 1.5 liter engine that produces 118 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 153 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The alternative is a 2.0 liter engine that produces 162 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 213 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Drive is sent to the front wheels using a SkyActiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission that is mated to both engines.

Naturally, retailers claim that they are already taking reservations for the Mazda 3 IPM. If you're shopping for a C-segment car, are these upgrades enough to pique your interest? The Mazda 3 is a hatchback, unlike rivals like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. Let us know what you think by leaving a comment below.
