The Chery Tiggo Cross has officially made its debut in Malaysia, following two earlier public previews—one at the Malaysia Autoshow and another in late June. This compact SUV, which fits between the A- and B-segment classes, has been long anticipated ever since Chery announced its return to Malaysia in October 2022, along with plans to introduce three new SUV models.

This latest offering is an evolution of the Tiggo 5x, first launched in China in 2017. It underwent its first facelift in 2019, followed by a second facelift in the same year that introduced the “Pro” variant. The version launching here is the third facelift, revealed in 2024, and tailored for export markets.

Now locally assembled (CKD), the Tiggo Cross is available in two variants. The 1.5 Turbo is priced at RM88,800, while the 1.5 Hybrid CSH (Chery Super Hybrid) comes in at RM99,800, both excluding insurance.
Powering the Turbo is a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four engine with 147 PS and 210 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). It features Eco, Normal, and Sport modes, and can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 10.3 seconds under Sport mode.

The Hybrid variant uses a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine (102 PS and 125 Nm) mated to a Direct Hybrid Transmission (DHT), which incorporates two electric motors producing a total of 204 PS and 310 Nm. The system supports five drive modes: EV, Tandem, Parallel, Direct Engine Drive (above 80 km/h), and Energy Recovery via braking or coasting.
A 1.8-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery sits under the boot in the Hybrid model, resulting in a boot space of 350 litres, compared to 380 litres in the Turbo. Both versions have a 51-litre fuel tank. Claimed fuel consumption is 6.3 l/100 km for the Turbo and 5.4 l/100 km for the Hybrid, with kerb weights of 1,468 kg and 1,565 kg, respectively.

In other markets, the Tiggo Cross comes in different forms. For instance, Indonesia gets a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine (116 PS and 138 Nm) with a CVT, while Australia receives the same turbo and hybrid options as Malaysia, though the turbo there uses a CVT instead of a DCT.
