HD Hyundai Robotics has signed a deal with HD Hyundai Samho and Neura Robotics to develop a four-legged humanoid robot for the shipbuilding industry.
The companies plan to jointly develop and test cognitive quadruped robots capable of welding in shipyard environments.
Neura Robotics, which specializes in cognitive robotics, would leverage its technology including the humanoid platform 4NE1 to help commercialize the robots for the shipbuilding industry.
"The core of this agreement lies in proving the potential of cognitive robots in one of the most demanding industrial settings: shipbuilding,” David Reger, CEO of Neura Robotics said in the announcement.
“This strategic partnership once again demonstrates the versatility of cognitive robots – even in one of the most demanding industrial environments in the world. Together with Hyundai, we are laying the groundwork for entirely new paths in intelligent automation.”
As part of the agreement, HD Hyundai Samho, which specializes in shipbuilding automation, would provide the demonstration environment while HD Hyundai Robotics provides technical support.
HD Hyundai Robotics said the agreement would serve as a crucial steppingstone to accelerate the adoption of robotics in the shipbuilding industry as well as strengthen global supply chain competitiveness.
The agreement was signed during the industrial automation exhibition Automatica in Munich, Germany. Neura Robotics has established physical AI training centers in Germany.
The company’s interconnected robot ecosystem called Neuraverse is designed to enable autonomous learning, which it likened to an app store for robotic intelligence.
Neura recently announced a partnership with GFT Technologies to develop next generation physical AI capabilities for its humanoid robots.Earlier this year, Neura raised 3 million in a series B funding round.
