Particle Density Test
Particle Density, also known as Specific Gravity of Soil Solids, is a laboratory test that estimates the ratio of the density of solid particles in soil to that of water. This test is required for several geotechnical computations, including void ratio, porosity, and degree of saturation. The test, which is performed in accordance with ASTM D854 or BS 1377-2, gives an accurate measurement of the mass and volume relationship of soil particles in the absence of air and water.
