Kitchen Countertop Guide: Quartz Stone vs Sintered Stone

25-May-2026

The kitchen countertop is one of the most heavily used surfaces in the home. It supports food preparation, cooking appliances, washing areas and daily cleaning. Choosing the wrong countertop can affect both the look and function of the kitchen.

Two popular choices for modern kitchen cabinets are quartz stone and sintered stone.

Quartz stone is widely used because it is practical, stable and suitable for many kitchen designs. It gives a clean surface appearance and is available in different colours and patterns. Many homeowners choose quartz stone because it balances appearance, function and cost.

Sintered stone is often selected for a more premium and modern look. It is commonly used when the client wants a marble-texture design, cleaner veining, or a more elegant countertop finish. In many recent Kitchen Story projects, sintered stone was selected to create a refined and high-end kitchen appearance.

For maintenance, both materials are easier to manage than many natural stone options. However, homeowners should still clean spills quickly, avoid direct heavy impact and use proper care when placing hot cookware.

The countertop must also be planned together with the sink, hob, backsplash and cabinet structure. Poor planning can result in weak cut-out areas, uncomfortable working height or poor visual alignment.

For small apartment kitchens, a light-colour sintered stone or quartz stone can help make the kitchen feel brighter. For dark-themed kitchens, black or grey countertops can create a stronger premium appearance.

At Kitchen Story Sdn. Bhd., we do not recommend countertops based on looks alone. We consider the client’s cooking style, budget, preferred maintenance level and overall cabinet design before proposing the suitable option.
