Improve Your Energy Performance

Improve Your Energy Performance

The first step in improving your "Energy Performance" is to have an "Improved Maintenance" program in place.

The biggest energy users almost anywhere are machines... you've got big machines, small machines, quiet machines, noisy machines, hot machines, cold machines... the list is never ending.

Sufficient to say, there are lots of energy consuming machines all over the place.

Easiest way to reduce machine energy consumption and improve its "Energy Performance" is to improve the maintenance regime for these machines.

Most organizations deploy a periodic maintenance program based on the equipment manufactures' recommendation, which were adequate previously.

An EnPI (Energy Performance Indicator) based maintenance program will further add value to an existing maintenance plan by improving the "Energy Performance" and ensures high operational reliability of the equipment.

How does this come about?

With EnPI, you will index the consumption of the machine vs the output it gives.

The "Energy Performance" of a machine will start to deteriorate over time.

There will be a threshold point where the energy consumption will rise dramatically (exponentially).

This would be the identifier on when the maintenance should be performed.Based on this information, you can devise a better maintenance plan to attain the optimum "Energy Performance".

You can also use the EnPI to evaluate new and different methods of maintenance... using different lubricants, different parts etc.

By operating the machine at optimum "Energy Performance", you improve "Energy Performance" and reduce energy consumption.

Now, are you Measuring & Monitoring your "Energy Performance"?... if NO, contact SaturnPyro at i3enms@saturnpyro.com and find out how we can help...

The 2nd step in improving your "Energy Performance" is to have an "Energy Efficient Culture"

... the 1st step is "Improved Maintenance"... which we covered in our topic (Part 1)...

Question 1... who uses energy?...

... you and me (people in essence)

Question 2... why do people use energy?

... it gets difficult here, as there are lots of possible answers... you can say people use energy because, they need it... they want it... they don't know... they can afford it... they don't pay for it... energy is cheap (not any more), etc., etc...

...while people use energy for various reasons, they use it as how they know... energy usage is influenced by their behavior and knowledge...

By instilling an "Energy Efficient Culture" or improving knowledge on efficient energy usage, you will enable a productive and effective energy usage in the organization.

"Energy Efficient Culture" has to be developed by creating awareness and educating on the best practices of effective energy usage, the do's and don'ts...EnPI (Energy Performance Indicator) is an effectively tool to measure the "Energy Efficient Culture" and it identifies the short-comings so that they can be addressed. At the same time, it ensures the "Energy Efficient Culture" is maintained or improved as the organization evolves over time.

How does this come about? With EnPI, you will index the consumption within the organization and the relative output obtained from the energy consumption.

The "Energy Performance" will reflect the prevailing condition and enables the improvement  of "Energy Efficient Culture".

The 3rd step in improving your "Energy Performance" is to implement "Energy Efficient Technology"

Implementation of "Energy Efficient Technology" is by far the most popular activity to improve "Energy Performance"... and requires a higher investment compared to any other activity.

"Energy Efficient Technology" can be anything from T5 bulbs to LED lighting to VSD etc that provides significant improvement in "Energy Performance".

It is estimated that only 15% off all energy saving projects involving "Energy Efficient Technology" are ever approved. This high rejection rate of these energy saving projects are due to lack of "Trust" in the saving calculation and payback schedule.

Top management are sceptical in investing to deploy "Energy Efficient Technology" due to high capital investment and lack of data. They simply don't "Trust" the proposals submitted by the energy managers.

The only way to get the "Trust" in "Energy Efficient Technology" is to implement EnPI (Energy Performance Indicator)... which is an effectively tool to measure the "Energy Efficient Technology" and prove the payback is attractive and worth implementing.

How does this come about? With EnPI, you will index the consumption before and after implementation of "Energy Efficient Technology" and the relative output obtained from the energy consumption.

The EnPI (Energy Performance Indicator) will prove and QUANTIFY the energy savings with the implementation of "Energy Efficient Technology". This concrete proof will restore the "Trust" in the energy savings project and ensure implementation.
