Cyberjaya Earns Gold Rating in Malaysia’s First Smart Township Certification

Cyberjaya has become the first township in Malaysia to receive a gold rating under the newly launched Smart Township 2025 Certificate of Recognition, marking a major milestone for the country’s digital-city agenda. The announcement further strengthens Cyberjaya’s position as a leading technology hub within the Klang Valley.

Cyberview Sdn Bhd — the master developer of Cyberjaya — also made history as the first government-linked company (GLC) to be awarded the recognition under the Malaysia Smart City Rating Programme, developed by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) through PLANMalaysia.

A Benchmark Achievement for Malaysia’s Smart City Vision

Cyberview CEO Kamarul Ariffin Abdul Samad described the recognition as a meaningful achievement that reflects years of coordinated efforts to shape Cyberjaya into a digital-ready, liveable, and innovation-driven township.

“What truly matters are the real impacts—creating opportunities, enhancing liveability and driving innovation that fuels national progress,” he said in a press statement.

The gold rating was officially presented to Kamarul during the National Level World Urban Planning Day 2025 celebration in Putrajaya, officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof. Several senior leaders, including Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, Deputy Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, and Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, were also in attendance.

Assessed Against International Smart-City Standards

Cyberjaya’s submission was evaluated through the Penarafan Perbandaran Pintar (Smart Township Rating) framework, aligned with global benchmarks such as MS ISO 37122:2019. The assessment covered 36 indicators that measure city performance in areas such as sustainability, mobility, digital adoption, governance, and environmental management.

Key Initiatives That Secured the Gold Rating

Cyberjaya’s strong score was supported by a series of future-focused initiatives, including:

• AI-enabled environmental and climate sensors

• Malaysia’s first moveable electric-vehicle (EV) charging station

• Micro-mobility solutions

• Advanced e-payment systems

• Digital training and start-up development via the Cyberview Living Lab programmes

These projects reflect Cyberjaya’s ongoing role as a testing ground for digital technologies and urban-innovation solutions.
