Basis Bay Launches World¡¯s First Eco-Green Premium Data Centre in Cyberjaya

11-Nov-2025

PETALING JAYA (Nov 7, 2025)Basis Bay, Malaysia’s leading sustainable IT infrastructure provider, has unveiled the world’s first purpose-built Eco-Green Premium Data Centre, marking a major milestone in the nation’s digital transformation agenda.

The new facility — Cyberjaya DC2 — was developed through a joint investment between Basis Bay and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) and was officially launched by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

Designed to meet TIA-942 Rated-4 and ISO 27001 standards, Cyberjaya DC2 sets a new global benchmark for data centre performance, security, and sustainability.

Setting a Global Standard in Green Digital Infrastructure

Basis Bay said the facility is built on four core pillars: data sovereignty, cyber availability, security, and eco-green sustainability — forming the foundation for a next-generation digital ecosystem that supports Malaysia’s banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) sectors.

Continuing its legacy as the pioneer of Asia’s first green data centre in 2009, Basis Bay’s Cyberjaya DC2 advances its sustainability vision with LEED Gold and GBI Gold certifications, while targeting Platinum certification by 2026.

The facility integrates solar power, vertical greenery, rainwater harvesting, and high-efficiency cooling systems — achieving a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) below 1.49, surpassing global energy efficiency standards.

“Our mission is to embed environmental responsibility into the digital infrastructure that powers Malaysia’s future,” said Basis Bay in a statement.

World-Class Security and Operational Resilience

Built to handle mission-critical operations, Cyberjaya DC2 incorporates redundant power, cooling, and network systems to ensure uninterrupted uptime — even during regional blackouts or cyber incidents.

Security is fortified through a defence-in-depth framework that includes anti-climb and electrical fencing, bulletproof windows, and biometric access control systems with x-ray scanners, walkthrough metal detectors, and pandemic-ready private lifts.

The facility’s advanced cybersecurity architecture can detect and neutralise denial-of-service (DoS) and cyberwarfare threats, ensuring data integrity and business continuity for clients in high-risk sectors.

Nurturing Local Digital Talent

To support Malaysia’s digital economy growth, Basis Bay has launched the Basis Bay Data Centre Foundation Certificate (BBDCFC) in partnership with Universiti Malaya — the first operator-led data centre training programme in Malaysia.

The course, which is HRD Corp claimable, aims to develop homegrown data-centre professionals and includes outreach opportunities for underprivileged youth through MySkills Foundation and ADTEC Kuala Langat (JTM).

This initiative complements Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to build a skilled digital workforce, supporting the establishment of data-driven industries across Selangor’s industrial zones and Kuala Lumpur’s commercial districts.

Sustainable Water Partnership with Air Selangor

In line with its green commitment, Basis Bay has also partnered with Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd to ensure a sustainable water supply for the data centre.

Under the agreement, Air Selangor will provide 43,710 litres per day (L/day) for the first of three development phases, with capacity expansion planned for future growth.

“This partnership supports Malaysia’s vision for a resilient, sustainable, and digitally advanced future,” said Adam Saffian Ghazali, CEO of Air Selangor.

Strengthening Malaysia’s Position in the Regional Data Ecosystem

The launch of Cyberjaya DC2 reinforces Malaysia’s position as a regional digital infrastructure hub, complementing ongoing industrial and commercial developments across Selangor, Puchong, and the Subang area.

As global demand for green and secure data storage accelerates, the project is expected to boost property activity in the industrial land and technology corridor of Selangor, driving spillover benefits to factories in Puchong and commercial property investments in KL.

With its eco-green design and world-class engineering, Basis Bay’s Cyberjaya DC2 stands as a model for future-ready infrastructure that balances digital growth, environmental responsibility, and national resilience.
