HASTE's Take
US route rates are surging, and it's squeezing your China-Malaysia capacity
US West Coast rates have climbed to USD8400 per FEU, and East Coast rates are holding around USD9600. These numbers might look like they have nothing to do with your China-to-Malaysia cargo, but they actually matter a lot. Shipping lines only have so many containers and sailings. Wherever a route pays more, that's where the line sends its boxes and capacity. Right now the US routes are more profitable, so lines naturally shift more empty containers and space there, leaving less room for regional routes like China-Malaysia.
