HASTE Take
Space, FX, and policy are all moving at once this week before National Day. Whoever acts first saves the most money
China's National Day golden week starts October 1, and factories and ports will basically shut down for almost a week. That's why the last few sailings before the holiday are so sought after right now, and space has suddenly gotten very tight. Shipping lines have chosen this exact moment, October 1, to raise rates, generally adding USD 2,000 to USD 3,000 per 40-foot container, with the exact amount depending on which carrier you use. Sailing schedules aren't very reliable right now either. Some freight forwarders say containers sometimes arrive three or four days early, and sometimes several days late, which throws off port handling and delivery afterward. If you planned to ship in October, it's best to hand your goods to your forwarder a few days before National Day. Otherwise you'll likely end up paying the rate hike and waiting extra days to get your goods.
