Maxis Accelerates Penang’s Digital Future with Fibre Network Expansion to Boost High-Speed Broadband Connectivity

Maxis is significantly expanding its fibre broadband network in Penang, with plans to connect over 100,000 homes by 2027. This marks one of the company’s largest infrastructure rollouts in the northern region.

The expansion will span all districts in Penang, with priority given to high-demand urban locations such as:

• Jelutong

• George Town

• Batu Maung

• Bayan Lepas

• Bayan Baru

As part of Maxis’ long-term digital infrastructure strategy, the upgraded fibre network is designed to be scalable up to 10Gbps, ensuring Penang residents can enjoy future-ready, ultra-high-speed broadband.

This rollout is made possible through Penang’s Last Mile Connectivity Guidelines, which streamline planning, approval, and fibre deployment processes — enabling faster, more efficient network expansion across the state.
