Introduction to Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT)

Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), founded in 1940, is a key national university in China. It is among the first universities included in the national “Project 211,” “Project 985,” and “Double First-Class” initiatives.

According to international rankings, BIT is ranked 259th in the QS World University Rankings 2026, 102nd in the ARWU 2025, 156th in U.S. News Best Global Universities 2025–2026, and 236th in the THE World University Rankings 2026. BIT ranks 9th among universities in mainland China for graduate employability (QS, 2022) and has achieved an A+ rating in the Ministry of Education’s quality certification for higher education for international students in China.

The Zhuhai Campus, established in 2001, serves as BIT’s high-level international campus in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. Located in the “Golden Inner Bay” of Zhuhai National High-Tech Zone, the campus offers a prime environment for study and innovation with excellent transportation and ecological surroundings. Currently, BIT has over 4,000 international students from 152 countries studying across its Beijing and Zhuhai campuses.

Undergraduate Program Categories

While strengthening students’ foundational and general education, BIT enhances their understanding of academic majors. After one year of study, students may confirm their specific major based on personal interests and academic requirements.

Note: For Chinese/Russian bilingual-taught majors, some advanced-level courses are taught in Russian. Russian language training will be provided after admission.

Application Eligibility

1. Applicants must have completed high school or above, be eligible for university admission, in good health, and willing to comply with Chinese laws and BIT regulations. Applicants must hold a valid foreign passport.

2. Applicants must be between 18 and 25 years old. Those under 18 must provide guardian documents for a legal guardian residing in Beijing.

3. Must meet the requirements of MOE [2020] No. 12.

Application Procedure

Applicants should log into the online application system “Study at BIT” (Contact E-Square to create account), fill in the application form, and pay the application fee online.
The system will open on October 15, 2025.

Required Application Materials (*Mandatory Uploads)

1. Passport (photo page; if applicable, previous Chinese visa page)

2. High school transcripts (notarized in Chinese or English)

3. High school diploma (notarized in Chinese or English)

4. Language proficiency:

   • Chinese-taught programs: HSK Level 5 ≥180.
     For Chinese-Russian bilingual programs at Zhuhai Campus, only HSK 5 is required; no Russian background is needed.

   • English-taught programs: IELTS ≥6.0 / TOEFL ≥85 / Duolingo ≥110 or equivalent certificate recognized by BIT.
     Applicants whose native language is English are exempt.

5. CSCA Score Report (Chinese Standard for College Admission) or registration proof if not yet taken.

6. Personal Statement (download template at: https://isc.bit.edu.cn → Resources → Download → BIT International Student Personal Statement Template).

7. Scholarship Application Form (if applying for scholarships).

8. Guardian documents (for applicants under 18).

9. Physical Examination Record for Foreigner (available in the “Download” section).

10. Non-criminal Record Certificate.

11. Financial Guarantee Certificate.

12. Other supporting materials (Applicants to the School of Design and Arts must submit at least two art portfolios).

Application Process

Submit online application → Pay application fee → Document review → Comprehensive interview → Pre-admission → Deposit payment → Final admission.

Applicants must submit their CSCA score before the interview.

Duration of Study and Fees

• Duration: 4 years

• Insurance: CNY 600/year

• Accommodation: CNY 800–1800/year

• Residence Permit: CNY 400/year

• Tuition (Chinese-taught): CNY 28,000/year

• Tuition (English-taught): CNY 30,000/year

Accommodation fees:

• Beijing Campus: Double room ¥1,350/month; Triple room ¥1,200/month; Quad room ¥900/month

• Zhuhai Campus: Double room ¥900/month; Triple room ¥700/month; Quad room ¥500/month

Scholarship Categories

(1) Chinese Government Scholarship (For Chinese-taught programs only)

Applicants may apply through the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their home country between November and April each year.
When filling in the “Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form,” select Type A, and enter “Beijing Institute of Technology” as your first-choice institution.

(2) Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students (Beijing Campus only)

Includes Category A, B, and C scholarships.
