2025 Xi'an Jiaotong University Undergraduate International Student Admissions Guide
Xi'an Jiaotong University is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education of China and a member of the C9 Ivy League in China. Founded in 1896, the university is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning in China. The university is a comprehensive research university covering 11 disciplines including science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, literature, law, philosophy, art, education, and cross-disciplinary studies. In 2023, the number of international students at Xi'an Jiaotong University reached 3,534, from 136 source countries. In 2013, it was awarded the honor of "the first national demonstration base for studying abroad in China" by the Ministry of Education . It ranks 10th in the 2024 Shanghai Ranking of Chinese Universities.
1. Eligibility
1. Aged 18-25, in good health;
2. Hold a valid foreign ordinary passport;
3. High school diploma or above (if you have not graduated at the time of application, you must provide a pre-graduation certificate and obtain a high school diploma before admission at the latest);
4. Meet the corresponding language proficiency requirements.
Programs taught in Chinese: Proof of Chinese proficiency must be submitted. Chinese proficiency should be equivalent to HSK Level 4 or above. (Those who do not meet the Chinese proficiency standard can choose to study in the preparatory course of Xi'an Jiaotong University. After the preparatory course, those whose Chinese proficiency reaches Level 4 of the "International Chinese Proficiency Standard" can enter undergraduate studies. English-taught programs: Submit proof of English proficiency. IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80 or Duolingo 110 or above, or other equivalent English proficiency certificates recognized by our school.
Applicants for the English-taught industrial design program must also submit an ENGLISH TOLC-I score of no less than 30 points.
Applicants whose native language is Chinese or English are exempted from submitting language proficiency certificates upon approval by our school.
5. Comply with the provisions of the Ministry of Education’s Foreign Language Letter [2020] No. 12 and the relevant regulations of our school.

III. Application Materials
1. Application Form for International Students at Xi'an Jiaotong University (please fill in the online application system of the School of International Education of Xi'an Jiaotong University);
2. Notarized copy of high school diploma. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must provide an official notarized translation;Fresh graduates should provide the original certificate of expected graduation issued by their school, and supplement the official documents when registering for admission;
3. Academic transcripts. Transcripts of all high school courses and notarized copies of the school's performance evaluation system. Texts other than Chinese or English must provide official translations; transcripts of standardized tests in the student's country or internationally accepted standardized tests (such as A-Level, IBDP, etc.);
4. Proof of language proficiency (such as IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo, HSK certificates, etc.; applicants whose native language is Chinese/English do not need to provide such certificate if confirmed by our school);
5. One letter of recommendation, issued by the high school principal or teacher (signed by the recommender and with email address and contact number);
6. Study plan. Written in Chinese or English, no less than 600 words;
7. A valid foreign ordinary passport;
8. Original and notarized copy of "Foreigner Physical Examination Record" (This form is uniformly printed by the Chinese health and quarantine department and can be downloaded by clicking http://sie.xjtu.edu.cn/en/2.pdf. It must be filled in English or Chinese. Applicants should strictly follow the items required in the form for examination. Forms with missing items, without the applicant's photo or the photo without a saddle stamp, without the doctor's opinion and the hospital's signature and seal are invalid. The examination result is valid for 6 months);
9. A valid certificate of no criminal record;
10. Other supporting materials (if any).
Note: a. Materials that do not meet the requirements will not be accepted;
b. Items 2 to 10 must be uploaded to the online registration system of the School of International Education of Xi’an Jiaotong University ;
c . The above materials must be in Chinese or English. For other languages, notarized translations must be provided;
d. During the review process, the school may require students to submit other materials as needed.
IV. Application, Admission and Registration
1. Submit your application online
Log in to the online registration system of the School of International Education of Xi'an Jiaotong University, follow the system prompts to complete the online application and upload the materials. No need to mail paper materials.

2. Pay the registration fee to complete the application
After the applicant submits the application in our school system, our school will conduct a preliminary review. If the applicant passes the preliminary review, the system will open the registration fee payment. If the payment is completed in full and on time, the application is completed. Regardless of whether the applicant is admitted or not, the registration fee is not refundable.
3. Proficiency Test for Admission to China
The specific time and method of participation will be notified separately.
4. Admission
The school will assess applicants through material review, admission level test and interview, and select the best candidates for admission. After completing the application, please pay attention to your application system and registered email address in time to follow up on information such as admission level test, interview, pre-admission, tuition payment, final admission, etc.
5. Check-in
Admitted students must strictly follow the registration procedures in accordance with the admission notice. The registration time is early September 2025, and the specific requirements are subject to the admission notice. The admission qualification review will be conducted at the time of registration, and the student's identity information, original graduation certificate, language proficiency certificate, etc., as well as the law-abiding and ideological and moral character before the registration deadline will be verified again. Those who fail the qualification review will be disqualified from admission.

VI. Scholarships
1. Chinese Government Scholarship
The Chinese Government Scholarship supports undergraduate students to study in Chinese-taught programs. Applicants must apply through their country’s sending department. When filling out the application form, you must fill in “Xi’an Jiaotong University” as your first choice in the “Applying School” column.
2. Xi’an Jiaotong University Siyuan International Student Scholarship
Xi'an Jiaotong University Siyuan International Student Scholarship supports undergraduate students studying in Chinese-taught programs. Applicants can submit their application directly through the Xi'an Jiaotong University International Student Application System. The scholarship covers tuition and living expenses. The scholarship is only for the first year of academic study. In subsequent academic years, the scholarship will be awarded based on comprehensive evaluation of academic performance.
3. Xi’an Jiaotong University – Xi’an “Belt and Road” Scholarship for International Students
Xi'an "Belt and Road" Scholarship for Foreign Students supports undergraduate students to study in Chinese-taught programs. Xi'an Jiaotong University provides tuition discounts for scholarship students depending on the situation. Applicants can directly submit applications in the Xi'an Jiaotong University International Student Application System. The scholarship content is for the first year of academic stage. Subsequent academic years must be based on comprehensive evaluation of academic performance.
4. Shaanxi Province Sanqin Scholarship, Xi'an Jiaotong University International Student Recognition Award
The Shaanxi Province Sanqin Scholarship and Xi'an Jiaotong University International Student Recognition Award are both one-time awards. They are for full-time self-funded foreign students. After entering the school, self-funded students can pay attention to the school's relevant notices and submit application materials as required.
