Proton has officially unveiled the all-new 2025 Proton X50, ahead of its expected launch in Q3 2025. Although the model is based on the Geely Binyue L facelift, Proton has positioned it as a second-generation, all-new model due to the many major upgrades it brings — most notably, a new 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that replaces the previous 3-cylinder unit.

The new engine delivers 181 hp and 290 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). This setup allows the X50 to sprint from 0–100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds, making it 0.3 seconds quicker than the outgoing model. Proton also claims a 4.7% improvement in fuel efficiency. For the first time, all three variants – Executive, Premium, and Flagship – will feature the same engine, ensuring consistent performance across the range.
Design-wise, the exterior of the 2025 X50 has been heavily updated. It features a larger front grille, slimmer LED headlights, and a bold three-segment daytime running light (DRL) design, similar to the one seen on the Proton S70. The bonnet has new lines and fake vents for a sportier look, while the rear end showcases new slim tail lamps, a light bar that spans the tailgate, and the word ‘Proton’ prominently displayed. The quad exhaust tips and roof spoiler enhance the sporty appearance, especially on the Flagship variant. Buyers can still opt for two-tone paint, with a new Teal Bayou Green colour joining the range.

Inside, the cabin receives a complete redesign. The old fighter-jet inspired layout is replaced with a more modern and cleaner dashboard. The centerpiece is a 14.6-inch freestanding infotainment display, paired with a slim digital instrument cluster. The system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto natively. The “Hey Proton” voice assistant is now capable of understanding Bahasa Melayu, and the updated Proton Link 2.0 mobile app offers features like remote engine start, air-conditioning control, and real-time vehicle status updates. The gear selector is now a steering-mounted stalk, freeing up more space in the centre console, which also includes a wireless phone charger and a new dual-slot phone holder. There’s also 72-colour ambient lighting to add a premium touch.

In terms of safety, the 2025 X50 now includes SAE Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), with the addition of rear side radar, an enhanced Auto Park Assist (APA), and a more advanced 360-degree camera system with undercarriage view, making parking easier and safer.
Proton is now opening the Registration of Interest (ROI) for the all-new X50 via its official website. Before the launch, the SUV will also make appearances at activation events, where the public can view the car in person and place early bookings. According to Proton Edar Deputy CEO Zhang Qiang, this new model is expected to appeal to a wide range of buyers, from young professionals and tech-savvy individuals to small families and first-time buyers. He added that the X50’s combination of performance, technology, and design will help redefine the benchmark in the B-segment SUV category.
