Malaysia’s first truly homegrown electric vehicle has officially arrived with the launch of the Perodua QV-E, a project that marks a major turning point for the national carmaker and the country’s EV roadmap. Revealed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur, the QV-E stands out as Perodua’s first EV built on a fully Malaysian-owned platform, developed with technical input from engineering specialist Magna Steyr.
Priced at RM80,000 (excluding insurance), the QV-E introduces a new ownership model for Malaysia. Instead of purchasing the battery, buyers subscribe to Perodua’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme for RM275 per month, with the fee integrated into their loan repayment. Under this system, Perodua retains ownership of the high-voltage battery, offers a lifetime warranty, and guarantees at least 70% State of Health—removing the biggest long-term cost concerns of EV ownership.
Built from the ground up, the QV-E rides on a new modular architecture designed to support future BEV, hybrid and REEV models, giving Perodua a flexible foundation for upcoming generations of vehicles. Despite being engineered under tight timelines, the EV delivers strong performance, featuring a 204 PS / 285 Nm motor, 0–100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, and a 52.5 kWh CATL LFP battery capable of up to 445 km NEDC range. The car supports 6.6 kW AC charging and 60 kW DC fast charging for quick top-ups.
Inside, the QV-E debuts several technologies never seen before in a Perodua, including a digital rear-view mirror, powered driver seat, ambient lighting and a fully connected P-Circle app for managing charging, battery health and payments. Safety is also elevated with a new Child Presence Detection system and an integrated SOS function.
With production underway at Perodua’s Smart Mobility Plant in Rawang and a network of EV-authorised outlets being established nationwide, the QV-E signals a bold new direction for the company. While its battery-leasing model may take time for buyers to understand, its lower entry price, lifetime battery support, strong performance and advanced features position it as one of the most compelling EVs in its segment.
The Perodua QV-E is more than a new model—it is the start of a new chapter in Malaysia’s homegrown EV developme
