After a year and a half of renovation, the Beijing-based China National Film Museum finally reopened on September 29. In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the museum is hosting an exhibition showcasing the development of China's film industry in the last seven decades.
Covering a floor space of 2,850 square meters, the museum's main hall is showcasing an exhibition titled ''Light and Shadow for Great Chapters, Efforts and Endeavors for the New Era.'' It features more than 200 film introductions and a collection of 500 film props, scripts, and photos highlighting the achievements of the Chinese film industry.
The exhibition also features an immersive 3D experience, allowing visitors to be part of some famous animations and interact with their favorite characters like Kung Fu Panda, White Snake, and the Black Sergeant. The CG modeling interactive device is pretty popular among the visitors as well. One part of the exhibition features scenes from the hit animated film Nezha on a large arced screen. Visitors can control the character on screen by moving in front of the sensor and trigger all kinds of the character's moves.
Another great experience at the museum is the dubbing of some classic parts of famous Chinese films, including Charlotte's Troubles, Wolf Warrior and and Operation Mekong. Moreover, the VR experience project called the Lunar Dream allows one to become an astronaut. Sitting in the ''spacecraft'', wearing VR equipment, one is ready to start a lunar expedition.
After the renovation, the museum's circular screen is now an 1,800-square-meter high-brightness LED display - the largest of its kind in China. At the same time, the museum's giant projection room now features glass walls - a development that allow the visitors to see how the films are projected.
According to the museum staff, China National Film Museum is expected to jointly launch a ''museum tour'' bus route with the nearby China Railway Museum and Civil Aviation Museum, so that the visitors can enjoy three different museums on the same route.
