PUTRAJAYA, March 28 (Bernama) ¡ª Backed by a strong relationship between the two countries, China showed its empathy to Malaysia in combating an invisible enemy, COVID-19, by contributing a consignment of medical equipment. The consignment consisted of 100,000 units of n-Cov PCR test kits, 100,000 pieces of N95 Medical Protective Face Masks, 500,000 pieces of 3-ply surgical masks, 50,000 sets of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and 200 units of ventilators. The consignment was handed over by Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Bai Tian to Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, at Wisma Putra here today. Hishammuddin expressed Malaysia¡¯s deep appreciation for the invaluable support of the Chinese government which clearly reflected the strong partnership between the two countries. Hishammuddin expressed Malaysia¡¯s deep appreciation for the invaluable support of the Chinese government on his Facebook ¡°This is an extraordinary contribution by a country to Malaysia, showing the close friendship, solidarity and consideration both Malaysia and China share. ¡°To China, it is my promise that Malaysia will make full use of these items and they will be immediately handed over to the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) so that our frontliners who have worked tirelessly will be prioritised in their distribution,¡± Hishammuddin said at a press conference after the handover ceremony, here today. He said, prior to today¡¯s donation, Malaysia had received multiple donations from various provincial governments, non-government organisations, business community and individuals from China. Meanwhile, Bai Tian said the Chinese government had paid very special attention when Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Hishammuddin expressed their worries about the lack of medical needs in Malaysia, and had succeeded in raising the most urgently-needed medical materials for this country. ¡°As a good neighbour and close friend of Malaysia, China feels how Malaysia feels, because in the past two months, China had also gone through a strenuous battle against COVID-19. ¡°The Chinese government and people will never forget how the Malaysian government and people had extended their helping hands during our darkest hours in the battle against COVID-19,¡± he said. Bai Tian said the batch of medical supplies had arrived in Malaysia, and hoped that these materials would help in the fight of the Malaysian government and people against the epidemic. Besides medical supply, Bai Tian said China would also offer the support of a COVID-19 medical expert team from China, which could come here and work hand in hand with their Malaysian colleagues. When asked how many and when would the doctors from China arrive here, Bai Tian said it all depended on the request from Malaysia. ¡°We want to know the actual need on the ground from the hospitals in Malaysia because we have experts from different areas like infection diseases, respiratory and ICU Cares. ¡°We are ready to offer the best practises and knowledge,¡± he said. PUTRAJAYA, Feb 18 ¡ª All 107 individuals comprising Malaysians and their family members who were evacuated from Wuhan, China on Feb 4 following COVID-19 outbreak in the republic, have been allowed to leave the monitoring centre in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan after they completed their quarantine process. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said repeated tests conducted on them were found to be negative for the COVID-19 infection. ¡°Those who are allowed home today included the two confirmed COVID-19 cases treated at Tuanku Ja¡¯afar Hospital in Seremban,¡± he told a daily media briefing on the COVID-19 infection here today. Dzulkefly said, however, one of them was currently admitted into a hospital for a health issue that was not related to COVID-19. The group was ferried home via a special flight under the Humanitarian and Disaster Relief mission, carried out by the Malaysian government. Upon their arrival, they were taken to the Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT) to undergo a 14-day monitoring process, starting from Feb 4. Meanwhile, Dzulkefly said the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Malaysia remained at 22 with 11 cases still receiving treatment at hospitals. ¡°The number of cases that have been discharged is 11 patients to date,¡± he said, adding that no new cases reported today. The 22 cases included 12 from patient-under-investigation (PUI) cases, eight from close contacts and two among evacuees from Wuhan. Of the 22 patients, 15 are China nationals, six Malaysians and one American. To date, a total of 583 PUIs have been reported to the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC). • ECRL project progressing as scheduled despite COVID-19

PORT KLANG, Feb 13 ¡ª The construction of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) is progressing as scheduled despite the COVID-19 outbreak. Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the rail project, which will connect Port Klang and Kota Bharu, Kelantan is currently 15 per cent complete. He said 13 ECRL workers, who went back to China for the Chinese New Year holiday last month, have yet to return to Malaysia and their absence has not affected the construction as most of the workers are locals. ¡°We have also not received any request from the financing company, Export-Import Bank of China (EXIM), to delay the payment of funds for this project. We are confident that ECRL will be fully operational in January 2027,¡± he said after visiting the ECRL Project Public Inspection site here today. Accompanying him were Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) chairman Tan Sri Ismail Bakar and MRL chief executive officer Datuk Seri Darwis Abd Razak. Loke said the ECRL will complement the National Transport Policy in the government¡¯s aspiration to increase cargo movement via railway rather than roads. ¡°Aside from reducing the number of heavy vehicles on the road, the ECRL will also connect two ports in Port Klang, namely West Port and the proposed Carey Island Port,¡± he said. The ECRL project, which was initially suspended by the government in July 2018 pending negotiations to lower construction costs, was resumed after MRL and China Communications Construction Company Ltd signed a supplementary agreement on April 12, 2019. The agreement entailed reducing the project costs to RM21.5 billion from the original RM65.5 billion. Category by Uncategorised
  • Coronavirus: 18 positive cases so far, including three fully recovered ¨C Dzulkefly

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 10 ¡ª Malaysia has recorded 18 positive cases of the 2019 novel coronavirus so far, including three who have fully recovered, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. He said the latest case involved a 31-year-old Malaysian man who worked in Macau and had returned to Malaysia on Feb 1. All patients undergoing treatment namely nine Chinese nationals and six locals were in stable condition, he told a press conference to update on the coronavirus situation in Malaysia, here today. He stressed that the coronavirus situation in Malaysia is still under control. On the latest case, he said 22 people the man had been in close contact with had been traced to contain spread of infection. Three of them were family members, namely his mother, a sibling and a relative while the remaining 19 were health personnel, he said, adding that samples had been taken from the family members for testing. ¡°We are still in the process of collecting samples from the 19 health personnel who are believed to have treated him at the early stage without personal bio-hazard protection as had been recommended,¡± he said. Asked whether Malaysia will be raising the alert level as has been done by Singapore, Dzulkefly said Malaysia does not use the same methodology. He said Malaysia followed certain phases before alerts are issued, namely starting with a warning phase, early containment, final containment before mitigation measures were adopted. He said Malaysia is still at the early containment phase currently. On Friday, Singapore raised its public health alert regarding the coronavirus situation in the city-state from yellow to orange, the second highest level, after reporting three new cases that were not linked to previous infections or travel to China, bringing cumulative cases in the neighbour to 43. Orange level was also declared in the republic at the height of the SARS outbreak in 2003. The 2019 novel coronavirus outbreak which started in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China has since spread around the globe, leaving in its wake at least 900 people dead, two of them outside mainland China, in the Philippines and Hong Kong. The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus outbreak a global health emergency on Jan 30. The SARS outbreak, which also originated in China, killed 774 people worldwide. ¡ª BERNAMA Category by Uncategorised
  • Bai Tian : Chinese government had taken proactive and drastic measures to contain the infection of coronavirus

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 ¡ª Not every Chinese in China eats exotic wildlife meats, which have been linked to the novel coronavirus epidemic in that republic. China¡¯s ambassador to Malaysia, Bai Tian said only a small number among the community consumed such meats and the Chinese government had started inculcating awareness of the health risks of eating wild animals. He said he and his family had never eaten nor were interested in eating exotic wildlife meats. ¡°It is also by law and regulations, the Chinese government has been exercising maximum protection of the flora and fauna of China including wild animals and plants. But of course there are a few people who do have their preference of eating wild animals which they think are more nutritious,¡± he said in an exclusive interview with Bernama TV at his office, here, yesterday. Bai Tian said last Jan 26, the Chinese government made an official public announcement forbidding wildlife trade and urged the people to fully understand the health risks of eating wildlife. According to media reports, experts from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had managed to separate a large quantity of coronavirus from the environment samples at Wuhan¡¯s Huanan Seafood Market, which also sells live animals. This success indicates that the virus which has spread to more than 20 countries originates from the meat of wildlife sold at the market. Bai Tian said since the coronavirus outbreak, the Chinese government had taken proactive and drastic measures to contain the infection, which had caused the death of over 400 people in China. ¡°Following the outbreak, the whole of China has been mobilised to fight against this epidemic. President Xi Jinping personally commanded and made arrangements for the battle against this epidemic,¡± he said. According to the ambassador, the Chinese government kicked off a comprehensive prevention and control system involving various levels ¡ª from the central government right down to the local governments ¡ª with Wuhan district and Hubei province as the focal points. Bai Tian said he was touched by the commitment of all parties in dealing with the critical situation, with over 50 medical teams comprising more than 6,000 personnel from across China assisting in treating the patients. He said the seriousness and commitment of the Chinese government in tackling the coronavirus epidemic was also proven with the building of a hospital with over 1,000 beds in only 10 days, which was regarded as a miracle. ¡ª BERNAMA Category by Uncategorised

The Department of Environment (DOE) has yet to receive an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report from the Selangor government on the proposed development at the Sungai Panjang Permanent Forest Reserve (SPPFR) in Sabak Bernam, Selangor, Environment and Water Minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said. He said according to Section 34A of the Environmental Quality Act 1974 (Act 127), an EIA report was required to enable the assessment of the development¡¯s impact on the environment to be carried out. The statement came as Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid earlier on Tuesday announced the lineup of the new government, with Mullah Hassan Akhund appointed as the acting prime minister. --BERNAMA Category by Uncategorised
