Accurate monitoring of water facilities has always been very important whether it’s for flood control, sewage plants, dams, power plants or watering facilities. The demands for each application different; for flood control the status of the valve needs to be sent to the central emergency response centers while for proper watering of farmland the opening of the gates needs to be remotely adjusted.

Radial and Drum Gates

For radial gates it is necessary to know the position of the cylindrical sections while for drum gates the position of the floating drum. In both cases the monitoring can be done remotely with the use of an inclinometer or rotary encoder.

 

Slide and Vertical Floodgates

Such gates need to maintain a certain water level or a certain throughput. The height of the gate can be easily checked with a rotary encoder or a linear sensor. Different communication interfaces allow for remote controlling. 

 

Automated Valves, Actuators

Valves need a very precise measurement of the flow rate. Due to the large number of valves used in waterworks, the cost efficient magnetic rotary

encoders are ideal. They can count revolutions even during a power shutdown.
