Workers beat sub-contractor to death over salary dispute

IPOH: Angry for not receiving their salaries in over two months, eight foreign workers allegedly beat up a sub-contractor to death here.

Pau Hoong Voon, 39, was believed to have been assaulted with hard objects in the workers’ rented house in Kampung Kepayang, Fair Park, at about 10pm yesterday.

The landlord who lives nearby found Pau unconscious in the house shortly after the incident and rushed him to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

Pau however succumbed to his injuries at about 1.45am yesterday.

Perak CID chief Senior Asst Comm (II) Mohd Dzuraidi Ibrahim said the eight suspects had fled the scene.

“They were working for Pau on a drainage and irrigation project for the KTM railway line. We believe that they were angry with him for not paying their salaries and decided to stop working for him.

“When he went into the house to try and persuade them to change their minds, they became angry and attacked him,” he said.

SAC Mohd Dzuraidi said police would contact the workers’ agents to trace them.

The case, he added, had been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
