PU MF stands for Polyurethane Modified Flooring — a heavy-duty industrial flooring system that combines the chemical resistance of polyurethane with the strength of modified cementitious aggregates. It is specifically designed for environments that demand high durability, hygienic surfaces, and resistance to aggressive chemicals and thermal shock.
PU MF flooring is typically installed at 4–9 mm thickness, depending on service conditions, and is widely used in food processing, pharmaceutical, and industrial manufacturing facilities.
A standard PU MF flooring system consists of:
- Polyurethane resin (binder for flexibility, chemical resistance, and durability)
- Modified cement and fillers (for compressive strength and dimensional stability)
- Graded silica/quartz aggregates (for abrasion resistance and slip control)
- Hardener (for cross-linking and curing)
- Pigments (for color coding and aesthetics)
Property | PU MF Flooring Performance |
Compressive Strength | 40–60 MPa |
Flexural Strength | 7–12 MPa |
Adhesion to Concrete | > 2 MPa |
Thermal Resistance | -40°C to +120°C (continuous service), up to +150°C (short-term) |
Chemical Resistance | Excellent against acids, alkalis, fats, oils, and solvents |
Slip Resistance | Adjustable via aggregate size |
Cure Time | Light traffic in 12–24 hrs, full cure in 3–5 days |
VOC Content | Low or zero (food-safe formulations available) |
- Thermal Shock Resistance – Can handle sudden temperature changes, making it ideal for hot water washdowns and freezer areas.
- Chemical Resistance – Withstands aggressive cleaning agents, acids, alkalis, and oils.
- Hygienic – Seamless, non-porous, and easy to clean; compliant with HACCP standards.
- Slip Resistance – Customizable texture for wet or dry environments.
- Durability – High impact resistance and long lifespan under heavy machinery.
- Low Odor & Low VOC – Suitable for use in occupied buildings without disrupting operations.
- Fast Installation & Cure – Reduces downtime during facility upgrades.
- Higher Cost – More expensive than epoxy or standard cementitious toppings.
- Surface Preparation Critical – Requires professional substrate profiling for adhesion.
- Color Range – Limited compared to decorative systems; prone to UV discoloration outdoors.
- Not Flexible Like PU Coatings – While tough, it is not suitable for high-movement substrates without reinforcement.
Industrial & Manufacturing:
- Chemical processing plants
- Beverage bottling facilities
- Packaging and assembly areas
- Dairy processing plants
- Meat and poultry processing
- Bakeries and confectionery production
- Breweries and wineries
- Cold storage/freezers
- Fish processing areas
- Commercial kitchens
- Production cleanrooms
- Laboratories
- Sterilization and packaging rooms
Step 1 – Substrate Preparation:
- Shot blasting, diamond grinding, or scarifying to achieve CSP 3–5 profile.
- Concrete moisture content checked (usually ≤ 5%).
- Apply PU or epoxy primer to seal pores and improve adhesion.
- Mix resin, hardener, and filler components.
- Apply using a trowel or screed to desired thickness (typically 6–9 mm).
- Roll with spike roller to remove trapped air.
- Broadcast anti-slip aggregates if required.
- Allow light foot traffic after ~24 hours.
- Wait 3–5 days before full chemical exposure.
- Daily Cleaning: Hot water or steam cleaning with neutral detergents.
- Periodic Deep Cleaning: Use alkaline/acidic cleaners as per manufacturer guidelines.
- Repair: Small chips or cracks can be patched with PU mortar repair kits.
