THE meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang was far more than a courtesy call – it marked a milestone in Malaysia’s rise as a regional AI powerhouse.
During a site visit to the YTL Green Data Centre in Kulai, Johor on Wednesday, it was announced that YTL and NVIDIA have entered a strategic partnership to develop AI infrastructure powered by renewable energy.
The collaboration is set to put Malaysia firmly on the global map as an AI hub and Centre of Excellence in ASEAN.
“YTL is one of only five NVIDIA Cloud Partners globally, alongside tech giants such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud,” a government spokesperson said. “It is also the only cloud partner located outside of the United States.”
Valued at RM10 billion, the mega project will not only support the development of Malaysia’s own sovereign large language model (LLM), but also drive local talent growth, upskilling, and the creation of high-value tech roles, including data scientists and AI engineers.
This AI–green energy synergy is envisioned as a national leap forward—transforming Malaysia’s potential into a regional reality. - August 20, 2025
