Selangor Grants Two-Week Extension for Kampung Jawa Residents to Vacate Land for WCE Project

11-Nov-2025

SHAH ALAM (Nov 10, 2025) — The Selangor state government has granted a two-week extension, effective Nov 11 to Nov 24, to 19 residents of Kampung Jawa, Klang, who were instructed to vacate their land to make way for the ongoing West Coast Expressway (WCE) construction.

State Housing and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said an official letter of postponement has been issued to the Klang District and Land Office, following residents’ appeals for additional time to manage their relocation.

“This will be the final extension. The project must proceed without further delay as it brings long-term benefits not only to Selangor but to Malaysians as a whole,” Borhan emphasized.

Compensation and Temporary Housing Provided

According to Borhan, all affected residents have received compensation from the WCE concessionaire and were offered temporary accommodation under the SMART Sewa Scheme.

The move ensures that no family is displaced without housing support, reflecting the state’s commitment to social responsibility and orderly project execution.

Earlier, the residents were given a seven-day notice, ending Nov 10, to vacate the affected 150-metre stretch of land. The revised deadline was approved following discussions between the residents, WCE company representatives, the Selangor Land and Mines Office, and relevant local authorities.

Critical Milestone for the West Coast Expressway

The West Coast Expressway (WCE) — now over 90% complete — spans 233 kilometres, connecting Banting, Selangor, to Taiping, Perak. Once completed, it will provide an alternative route to the North–South Expressway (PLUS), significantly reducing congestion and enhancing logistics connectivity across the west coast corridor.

The project is expected to spur economic growth and property development along its alignment, particularly in Selangor’s industrial zones, including Puchong, Subang, and Klang, where improved accessibility could boost demand for industrial land in Selangor and factory properties near major transport routes.

Property experts note that infrastructure projects like WCE also benefit commercial property in KL and office space in Bukit Jalil, as enhanced highway networks encourage businesses to expand their operational reach across the Klang Valley and beyond.

Infrastructure-Driven Growth Ahead

The WCE corridor is emerging as one of Malaysia’s most transformative infrastructure developments, complementing other major connectivity projects such as the Mutiara LRT Line and East Coast Rail Link (ECRL).

By improving logistics efficiency, the expressway is poised to strengthen industrial and residential growth nodes throughout Selangor, particularly near Subang’s industrial property clusters and new logistics parks in the Puchong–Klang region.

Borhan reiterated the state’s firm stance on timely delivery, stating:

“The WCE has been delayed for too long. It is time to move forward to ensure the people enjoy safer roads, shorter travel times, and the economic opportunities that come with it.”
