The university boasts a comprehensive range of disciplines, covering 12 academic categories including literature, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, science, engineering, medicine, education, arts , and interdisciplinary fields . It is characterized by its well-rounded approach, strong interdisciplinary nature, and significant potential for cross-disciplinary integration. The university comprises 38 colleges, 59 departments, and 18 directly affiliated research institutes. It offers 108 undergraduate programs , 41 master 's degree programs in first-level disciplines , 28 doctoral degree programs in first-level disciplines , and 41 professional degree programs . It has 24 postdoctoral research stations and 1 postdoctoral research workstation . Currently, it has 52 national -level first-class disciplines and 34 provincial-level first-class disciplines . As of March 2025 , 19 of the university's disciplines are ranked in the top 1% of the ESI (Essential Science Indicators ) worldwide, ranking third among universities in Guangdong Province ; 13 disciplines are ranked in the top 0.5% of the ESI worldwide , with Pharmacology and Toxicology ranking in the top 0.1% . In the fifth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education, 37 first-level disciplines of the university participated in the evaluation, and the overall progress was significant.
The university is deeply rooted in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with five campuses in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Zhuhai. Currently, the university has 48,393 full-time students , including 31,851 undergraduates , 16,542 graduate students , and 16,110 students from Hong Kong, Macao , Taiwan , overseas Chinese communities, and international students .

I. Application Requirements
Overseas Chinese students who have a high school diploma or equivalent, are generally no more than 25 years old , are of good character, have no criminal record, and are in good physical and mental health are eligible to apply to Jinan University.
According to the "Notice of the Ministry of Education and Other Four Departments on Doing a Good Job in the Joint Enrollment of Overseas Chinese, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Students by Regular Institutions of Higher Learning" (Teaching [ 2018 ] No. 4 ) , the residency time of overseas Chinese students and their parents who have overseas Chinese status must meet the following requirements:
( 1 ) Both the student and one of their parents must have obtained long-term or permanent residency in the country of residence and have resided in the country of residence for no less than 18 months ( 540 days ) for two consecutive calendar years (i.e., from January 1 of a certain year to December 31 of the following year ) ; among them , the student must have actually resided in the country of residence for no less than 18 months (540 days ) in total within the two years prior to the application ( from April 1 , 2024 to March 31 , 2026 ) .
( 2 ) If the student or one of their parents has not obtained long-term or permanent residency in the country of residence, but has obtained legal residency status in the country of residence for 5 consecutive years or more (including 5 years) , they must have resided in the country of residence for a cumulative period of no less than 30 months (900 days) within 5 consecutive calendar years ( i.e. , from January 1 , 2019 to December 31 , 2023 , such as January 1 , 2019 to December 31 , 2023 ) ; and the student has actually resided in the country of residence for a cumulative period of no less than 30 months ( 900 days ) within 5 years prior to the application (i.e., from April 1 , 2021 to March 31 , 2026 ) , they may also apply.
According to relevant national regulations, Chinese citizens studying abroad (including those on government scholarships and those on their own) or working abroad on official business (including those dispatched as laborers) are not considered overseas Chinese.
Note: If the student and their parents have obtained long-term or permanent residency in their country of residence, the clause requiring " actual cumulative residence in the country of residence for no less than 30 months within the 5 years prior to registration " does not apply.
II. Admission Pathways
1. Application review for admission
Applicants with a foreign high school diploma or equivalent, a complete record of their high school studies abroad, and a score of 5 or above on the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) can be exempted from the written test if recommended by Jinan University's overseas registration point, Chinese embassies or consulates abroad, overseas Chinese associations, schools, or prominent figures . Alternatively, applicants may apply themselves with recommendations from two teachers. Depending on their Chinese or English proficiency, academic performance during high school, conduct evaluation, and health status, they will be admitted based on merit after review.
For all students applying to the International College whose native language is not English, the English proficiency level must reach IELTS 5.5 ( with each section score of 5.0 or above), TOEFL iBT 80 , or SAT 1030 or above.
Our university will organize a written examination for some applicants as needed , depending on the specific review results. Specific arrangements will be announced separately. For detailed application procedures, please refer to the "Jinan University 2026 Application Review and Admission Guide" (expected to be published on the Jinan University Undergraduate Admissions website in March 2026 ).
2. Admission by Examination
( 1 ) Participate in the “Joint Entrance Examination for Overseas Chinese, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Students to Regular Institutions of Higher Learning in the People’s Republic of China” (hereinafter referred to as the National Joint Entrance Examination) .
Registration is open in early March each year , and the exam is held in late May each year . For details, please refer to the relevant guidelines published by the National Joint Entrance Examination Office ( https://eea.gd.gov.cn/lhzs/ ) .
( 2 ) Students who participate in the "Joint Entrance Examination for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese and Other Foreign Students of Jinan University and Huaqiao University" (hereinafter referred to as the Joint Entrance Examination of the Two Universities) and list Jinan University as their first choice will be admitted by the university based on their examination scores.
The joint entrance examination for the two universities adopts the " 3+X" examination format. Chinese, English and mathematics are compulsory subjects, plus one elective subject (humanities: history and geography; science: physics, chemistry and biology; applicants for medical majors must choose one of physics and chemistry , and then take biology).
Candidates applying for science, engineering, and medical majors may also apply for humanities, history, foreign affairs, economics, management, and law majors.
The examination venues are located in Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou, and Xiamen. The specific examination location will be indicated on the admission ticket.
The examination scope is based on the content stipulated in the "Examination Review Outline for Joint Admission of Students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese, and Other Foreign Students by Jinan University and Huaqiao University (Fifth Edition)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Examination Outline") compiled and published by the Joint Admissions Committee Office of Jinan University and Huaqiao University.

IV. Registration Process

Note:
1. The registration point only handles on-site confirmation of online registration and collection of materials and registration fees. Modifications and supplementary registrations will not be accepted.Once online registration is successful, the submitted registration materials and fees are non-refundable.
2. If any false information or inaccurate application materials are found in the online registration, the applicant 's registration and admission will be cancelled.
3. For joint entrance examinations by the two universities and the national joint entrance examination, candidates mustpersonallygo tothe Shipai Campusof Jinan University to complete the on - site confirmation procedures (see the registration instructions for details).Online pre-registration records that are not confirmed on-site within the registration period will automatically become invalid.If a candidate is unable to go to the on-site confirmation procedures in person due to special circumstances, the candidate must submit a written application to authorize a relative to confirm on their behalf. The relative must present the candidate's ID, the agent's ID, a power of attorney signed by the candidate, and other registration materials. Each agent can only complete the confirmation procedures for one candidate.
4. Applicants applying for admission through review must submit hard copies of their application materials in accordance with the requirements of the "Jinan University 2026 Application Guide for Admission Through Review" after completing the online registration . Online pre-registration records will automatically become invalid if hard copies are not submitted by the deadline .
V. Application Materials
1. [ Application Form ] "Application Form for Enrollment of Students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese, Ethnic Chinese and Other Foreign Students of Jinan University and Huaqiao University" (with the applicant's signature) .
2. Materials for overseas Chinese students and their parents: (Note 1 )
( 1 ) [ Passport ] The student's own passport and the passport of one of their parents who is an overseas Chinese , including the photo page, visa page and entry/exit record stamps. The entry/exit record stamps must show the entry/exit situation. If they are on an old passport, they must be provided together with the old passport.
( 2 ) [Proof of parent-child relationship] Documents proving the legal relationship between the student and his/her parent who has overseas Chinese status , such as: birth certificate, household registration book, etc. If it is a notarized certificate of parent - child relationship, it must be issued after April 1 , 2025 to be valid (if both parents of the student have passed away, relevant legal materials such as proof of overseas Chinese status and death certificate of the student's parents are required) .
( 3 ) [ Proof of residency and length of stay ] The student and his/her parents who are overseas Chinese have a foreign long-term or permanent residency permit or legal residency permit (if applicable, including front and back) and a certificate issued by the Chinese embassy (consulate) abroad certifying that the student and his/her parents who are overseas Chinese have obtained foreign long-term or permanent residency (in Chinese, indicating the continuous period of residence in the country of residence and the actual cumulative residence time within two years), or a certificate of legal residency status in the country of residence (in Chinese, indicating the continuous period of legal residency status in the country of residence and the actual cumulative residence time within five years) .
If you are settling in a country that does not have diplomatic relations with my country, you must provide a residency certificate issued by the embassy or consulate of a third country that has diplomatic relations with both my country and your country of settlement, and a certificate issued by the embassy or consulate of my country in the third country (in Chinese, specifying the date of obtaining residency).
( 4 ) [Entry and Exit Records] The entry and exit records of the candidate and his/her parents who are overseas Chinese, issued by the entry and exit administration departments of the country of residence and China (including entry and exit time, place of stay, and length of stay).
3. [Graduation Certificate] and [Transcript](proof)for high school or above,academic transcripts for each year of high school issued by the graduating high school, all of which must be notarized or authenticated (Note 1 ) ,standardized test score reports (if applicable, seeNote3),if not in Chinese, must be translated into Chinese.
4. [ Proof of Language Proficiency]HSK, IELTS, or TOEFL score certificate (scores are valid within two years and are required for admission through application review).
5. [ Personal Statement] (Self-introduction, past learning experience, and study plan in China; required for applicants admitted through the application review process).
6. [Letters of Recommendation]2letters (can be recommended by our school's overseas admissions office, local overseas Chinese associations, prominent figures in the overseas Chinese community, or the principal or teacher of the student's high school ).
7. [Medical Examination Report] Applicants for medical-related majors at our school must also provide a medical examination report from the past six months. The template for the medical examination report is attached as "Medical Examination Form " ( to be provided by applicants applying for admission ) .
Note:
(1) According to the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement for Authentication of Foreign Official Documents, documents such as foreign residency certificates and foreign academic credentials obtained by the candidate (items 2 and 3 above ) must be accompanied by an additional certificate issued by the competent authority of a contracting state of the Hague Convention (excluding India). If the contracting state is India or not a contracting state of the Hague Convention, an authentication certificate issued by the Chinese embassy or consulate abroad must be provided. All documents, if not in Chinese, must be translated into Chinese by a qualified translation agency.
(2) All student documents must be valid and the validity period should be appropriate for the study period. If any doubts are found regarding the application materials, they will be submitted to the public security department or relevant issuing department for verification. Those suspected of forgery will be held legally responsible , and our school will not admit them. If someone has already been admitted, our school reserves the right to cancel their admission .
(3) Standardized test transcripts include the national unifiedhigh school graduation examination transcript, university entrance examination transcript , or internationally recognized standardized test transcripts for high school, such as UEC/A-Level/AP/IB/SAT/ACT , etc.
(4) Among graduating high school students, those admitted through the National Joint Entrance Examination must upload their high school graduation certificate (proof) and senior year transcript for the second semester to the Joint Entrance Examination Office's registration website after enrollment; those admitted through the joint entrance examination of the two universities must submit their high school graduation certificate (proof) and senior year transcript for the second semester after enrollment. Our office will verify the submitted materials. Those who fail to submit the materials on time or whose verification fails will have their admission qualifications revoked by our university.
(5) Applicants for the joint entrance examination of the two schools should submit one copy of the above materials , all of which are A4 paper size, bound vertically in order, and bring the original for verification, and pay the registration fee at the same time.
(6) For applicants applying for admission through review, the application process can be found in the "Jinan University 2026 Application Guide for Admission." Current high school graduates who have not yet obtained their high school diploma may submit a pre-graduation certificate issued by their school . They must submit their high school diploma through the application system before August 15 , 2026. Failure to submit the diploma by the deadline will result in the university revoking their admission.

VII. Scholarships
1. Ministry of Education Scholarship for Hong Kong, Macao and Overseas Chinese Students
To encourage students from Hong Kong, Macao, and overseas Chinese communities to study at mainland universities and research institutions, enhance their sense of patriotism, and motivate them to study diligently and strive for excellence, the Ministry of Education has established the "Ministry of Education Scholarship for Students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Overseas Chinese Communities." The scholarship is awarded annually and is divided into four levels: Special Prize for undergraduate students: RMB 8,000 per student per academic year; First Prize: RMB 6,000 per student per academic year ; Second Prize: RMB 5,000 per student per academic year ; and Third Prize: RMB 4,000 per student per academic year .
2. Jinan University - China Science and Technology Development Foundation Scholarship for New Students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese
To encourage and support outstanding students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese communities to apply to Jinan University, Jinan University, in conjunction with the China Science and Technology Development Foundation, has established the Jinan University Undergraduate Scholarship for Hong Kong, Macao , Taiwan, and Overseas Chinese Students. This scholarship is awarded to outstanding full-time undergraduate students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese communities admitted to Jinan University. Eligible overseas Chinese students can participate in the "Joint Entrance Examination Outstanding Students" scholarship selection, with the opportunity to receive scholarships ranging from 20,000 to 50,000 yuan.
8. Accommodation, medical care, and other living services
The university has five campuses in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Zhuhai, with the main campus located in Shipai Street, Tianhe District, Guangzhou. The total campus area is 2,268,100 square meters , with a building area of 1,832,600 square meters and student dormitory area of 491,800 square meters. The university library has a collection of 435,340 books . Student apartment rooms are equipped with beds, luggage racks, small wardrobes, desks, chairs, internet access, air conditioning, and bathrooms, but private rooms are not available .
The school has an on-campus clinic and 10 affiliated hospitals, including 4 national Class III Grade A hospitals . Medical services are available to faculty and students at any time. Students are required to pay national medical insurance fees while enrolled and are entitled to basic public medical care as stipulated by the state.
The school has a student canteen where students can choose their meals freely. Monthly food expenses are generally between RMB 1000 and 1500. The school also has services such as a bank, post office, barbershop, laundry, repair shop, bookstore, shopping mall, restaurant, and photo studio.

3. Applicants for Physical Education, Broadcasting and Hosting Arts, Calligraphy, Animation, Directing for Drama and Film, Dramatic Literature for Drama and Film, and Recording Arts should, in principle, list this major as their first choice and also register separately for a professional skills assessment.
4. New students will undergo a physical examination upon enrollment. Students admitted to medical-related majors (including: Clinical Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Stomatology, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Traditional Chinese Pharmacy, and BiopharmaceuticalEngineering) who are found to have color blindness or color weakness will be reassigned to a major outside of medicine.
5. Applicants for the Chinese Language Education major at the College of Chinese Language and Culture must apply through the Overseas Chinese Language Education Major Student Scholarship program. Specific requirements are subject to the relevant guidelines published by the College of Chinese Language and Culture of Jinan University.
IX. University Preparatory Class
Those who do not meet the undergraduate admission standards may apply to enroll in a preparatory course (arts or science).
Preparatory Class A (Arts and Sciences): One-year program. Upon completion of the program and passing the graduation examination, students who meet the graduation requirements will be awarded a preparatory course completion certificate from Jinan University. Students with satisfactory grades in all subjects and good moral character will be directly admitted to relevant undergraduate programs at Jinan University.
Preparatory Class B (Arts & Sciences): One-year program. Upon completion, students can progress to undergraduate studies through the following three pathways:
1. Based on the overall academic performance and conduct evaluation, approximately 20% of students with excellent academic performance and conduct will be admitted to relevant undergraduate programs at Jinan University without taking the entrance examination.
2. Students who have passed all subjects in the academic year but were not recommended for admission and have not been subject to disciplinary action may participate in the direct admission examination for the Preparatory Class A. If they pass all subjects, they may be directly admitted to relevant undergraduate majors at Jinan University.
3. Those who are not admitted through direct admission or guaranteed admission can participate in the joint entrance examination of the two universities and the national joint entrance examination in the same year.
Main courses:
Humanities subjects: Chinese, English, Mathematics, History, Geography.
Science subjects: Chinese, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology.
